The Swahili Wikibooks has no content and no activity apart from spam cleanup. Contacting the Swahili Wikipedia didn't help either. -- Prince Kassad 05:23, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

- Support Additionally, the language has poor localisation (28%). Siebrand 15:48, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

- Support Yes, it is harming the WMF; either it becomes a collection of spam that looks bad, or someone who could be working elsewhere has to patrol it. A Wikibooks can easily be opened when the critical mass does come about.--Prosfilaes 20:30, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- Close and move it back to the incubator. Completly death, no content, no activity... per above. --dferg ☎ talk 13:40, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Oppose closing
- Oppose --A12n 12:35, 9 August 2008 (UTC) The various specialized WM projects for African languages pose a greater challenge than the main Wikipedia editions for the same languages. In the case of African languages with some significant print publication, like Swahili, I would think that outreach to appropriate interested communities might yield interesting results, and that exploring that should be part of a WMF strategy. It was good that the sw.wikipedia.org group was contacted, but Wikibooks may need different kinds of contributors. What is the experience with Wikibook editions for other languages with small Wikipedias? I would suggest that this edition not be closed before there is some outreach to find interested parties - to that end I'll post a message on H-Swahili. Given Swahili's importance, this could an ideal opportunity to learn how better to promote development of diverse African language Wikibook projects rather than another chance to cut them short.
- Oppose --RekishiEJ 14:23, 23 August 2008 (UTC) Swahili is one of the dominant languages of Africa, so a few years later Swahili Wikibooks will thrive. Chinese Wikipedia used to have very little activity, but now it is the most popular websites (containing wikis) in Taiwan.
- Oppose. Time, friends, give it time. --Jeffmcneill 23:11, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose Lets give the project a chance --Alpha Quadrant 18:10, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose. Swahili is big language. I think it is problem of African connection to Internet. Give it a chance. Zordsdavini 07:37, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose --Sarvaturi 08:14, 27 June 2010 (UTC) It's an important language of Africa. I see that Swahili Wikibooks has some "Christian-related contents": Mtaguso (Yesu Kristo), Ndugu Wadogo (Fransisko wa Asizi), Wafransisko Wasekulari, Wafransisko, Klara wa Asizi, Kanisa, Waklara, Sala ya Moyo, and other contents like Alfu Lela U Lela.
- Oppose I've never seen the point of closing wikis in legitimate languages just because they aren't active. Is this project actively harming the WMF? Swahili is a widely-spoken language with millions of speakers and it'll only be a matter of time before it becomes popular, as the developing world gets more and more access to the Internet; I don't see why we should deny Swahili speakers the ability to contribute to a Wikibooks in their own language. Tempodivalse [talk] 14:25, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose per the excellent comment above me. Swahili is huge, this project just needs more exposure, and it will be getting it soon, Sue Gardner promised it at the recent Wikimania. -- OlEnglish 13:24, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- Well, that's the case for most wiki's which are about to be closed. --OosWesThoesBes 17:59, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Comments
- What is the current status of this proposal?--A12n 15:41, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
- Looking at the Main Page, it seems that it was already closed... there is almost no content left. I do think, however, that the main page should have a link to the Swahili Wikipedia. (If ther are no objections/policies against it, I would happily do so myself.) Avicennasis 08:44, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps it's time to close this project? --OosWesThoesBes 08:39, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- Comment Not to sure of closing this project. Some pages actually do have content, it just needs users, but it hasn't gotten much.Kanzler31 00:05, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
