Project Baghdad
Project Baghdad is an editing campaign aiming to create articles about Islamic history and culture, which are already present in the Arabic and Persian Wikipedias (and generally languages of the Islamic world), but are potentially lacking in other Wikipedias, as well as promoting them to featured or good status.
Why Baghdad?
[edit]In 762 AD, Abbasid Caliphate chose Baghdad as their capital. Soon after then, it became one of the most important cultural and intellectual center of the Muslim world. The city has seen the evolution of Islam, and the harmonious blend of different cultures and religions. This project is the spiritual continuation of the ancient city of Baghdad.
What's our aim?
[edit]Many articles on Arabic or Persian Wikipedia on Islam-related topic are of high quality. They're either good or featured on these wikis, but may not be so good elsewhere. Our project is to translate them into English and promote them to good or featured status, for English is a worldwide language, which can act as a bridge between almost all languages. When English version of them are promoted, they're considered "ready". For all ready articles, anyone interested can translate them to any other languages, promoting them to aforementioned statuses. Finally, we can improve other language versions of Islam-related articles to higher quality.
Any details?
[edit]- If an article is good in an edition and featured in another, then try to promote the good article to featured as well. At the time of writing, d:Q826083 is a good example: good on English edition, but featured on Arabic edition: in this case, promote the English version first.
- Many articles falling in scope of our project are good on English edition but not on Arabic or Persian, then we can translate back and promote them all as well.
- When translating to other editions, languages mainly used in Muslim countries (e.g. Turkish, Urdu, Indonesian, Bengali) are in higher priority. Larger communities are in priority to ensure wider audience: if a wiki has local CheckUser or Suppressor, then it's large enough.
