PhilWiki Community diversity program committee chair Glenda Perico-Brioso with Sheena Aiza A. Bagacina organized this year's WikiGap Campaign in support of Wikimedia movement’s advocacy to promote inclusivity and improve the representation of women across Wikimedia projects.

Sixteen (16) empowered women from the fields of education, community, and social services attended the kick-off event on March 9 at Sideboard Cafe, Penafrancia Ave., Naga City.

Mechanics

Sheena explains the process of translating and editing articles to the participants.

An edit-a-thon will be held with the mechanics listed below:

1. Participant must have their account in Wikipedia. Only one account will be acknowledged.

2. Participant must have joined the WikiGap Philippines Event Launch on March 9 at Sideboard Cafe, Peñafrancia Avenue, Naga City.

3. A minimum of 2,000 bytes per article will be credited as 1 article. An event dashboard will be used to track the edits of the participants. https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/PhilWiki_Community/Wiki_Gap_Edit-a-Thon_2024

4. The person with the highest number of articles edited and/or translated in Filipino/Bicol will be declared as winner. Three lucky participants will be declared as winners and shall receive the following prizes.

3rd Prize- 1, 000 pesos

2nd Prize- 2,000 pesos

1st Prize- 3, 000 pesos


5. The challenge will end on March 31 at 12 midnight. Any article edited/translated published beyond the cut-off will no longer be included in the count.

Wiki Gap Campaign in the Philippines concluded on April 6 with 346 new articles closing the gender gap on Tagalog Wikipedia and Bikol Wikipedia! The editing activity focuses on improving and creating new articles on women-related topics using the Wikipedia Content Translation Tool.
