Ideas of contributions

Add terms to the glossary by editing the page (see below).
Add or correct information to existing terms by editing the page through one of these ways: if you know a bit of coding OR if you know nothing about coding (see below).
Check the term in Wikidata through the link presented in the middle column of the glossary.
Check the Open Culture/GLAM Zotero Group Library and try to extract missing terms and descriptions, or enrich existing ones from both the existing resources and tags.
Check how well these ideas are reflected in the Wikipedia articles presented in the right column of the glossary.

Notes

Only add content created by you or under a CC license.
Please, do not delete any terms not added by you.
When you add a term, please, add at least the description. One reference is desirable (not mandatory).
Please read this tutorial first (you must use the code template for that), and add the terms alphabetically.
The glossary may use the singular form of a given term, but intends to acknowledge multivocality and the diverse forms of representation within concepts such as: audience/audiences, heritage/heritages, community/communities, and so on. There can be great width and diversity to each of these terms, but the experiences or meanings the term conveys is not always shared.

Warning! New terms MUST be FIRST created in the English version of the Glossary.

First step

You need to have an account and be logged-in for making any change in the wiki pages.

To create a free Wiki-account, go to the landing page. You only need to provide a Username and a Password. If you want, you may also provide an e-mail address.

Then, access the glossary logged-in into your Wiki-account.

If you know nothing about coding

Add "ve" (from Visual Editor) in the URL before "action=edit".

Ex.
SIMPLE EDITION: meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Open_Culture/GLAM_Glossary&action=edit
VISUAL EDITION: meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Open_Culture/GLAM_Glossary&veaction=edit

This is the initial page you will see (you are already inside the edition tool - called Visual Editor).

Note that the term lights blue if you click it once and a new window open with the "Edit" option.

Click on "Edit" and a new window pop-ups. You may also simply double-click on the term you want to edit.

In this window you just need to click inside the field if you want to edit it.

Note that some fields have little arrows on the right side. It means there is more content in the field.

Just click inside the field to see all the content.

Make your contribution and click on “Apply change”.

Note: If you want to add information to the fields “reference”, you must use a bit of coding.

For references = [link text] - separate the link and the text with a space.

  Ex. [https://openglam.pubpub.org/pub/the-glossary/release/1. OpenGLAM]

After you click on “Apply change”, the term you have edited will light in dark blue. You now need to click on “Publish changes…” on the right top corner.

Provide a short description of what you did, and check the boxes if you’ve made minor edits like spelling corrections (check “This is a minor edit”), and/or if you want to receive a message inside wiki and in your email if someone makes changes in this page (check “Watch this page” and chose the period). And click on “Publish changes”.

This is the initial page you will see (you are already inside the edition tool - called Visual Editor).

Mouseover the place you want to add the new term, and a field “+ Insert paragraph” will appear. Click on it.

Note: Remember the terms of a glossary are alphabetically organized.

A new empty line will be created in the place you have clicked.

Copy and Paste the template below in the place you chose:

The moment you paste it, a window will quickly pop-up.

It seems nothing has changed. But there is a small difference: the term below has a trace on its left side.

Mouseover the place you have pasted the code, and a “hidden” field will appear.

Double-click on it and the window will pop-up.

Note: Place your text between the tags “<translate>” and “</translate>” and keep them.

How to fill it:

Make your contribution and click on “Apply change”.
