Ombuds commission/2018/Report Jan-Jun
Semiannual Report: January 1, 2018 to June 30, 2018.
Composition
Members of the Ombudsman Commission are selected by the Wikimedia Foundation, which has continued its practice of appointing members for a term lasting approximately one year. A new Commission was officially announced on February 1. Its members are users Billinghurst, Dyolf77, Elmacenderesi, Góngora, Jamie Tubers, Lankiveil (deceased), Saileshpat and Teles, with users Krd and Pajz serving as advisors. The new members of the Commission received all necessary access rights within one week from February 1, at which point the new Commission was fully operational.
An IRC meeting was held in early February, during which the Commission proposed a new role called "case coordinator". This was meant to replace the Secretary role, which had proved ineffective. Despite back and forth discussions, there was no agreement as to how case coordinators should handle the cases. As a consequence, the Commission decided to carry on without secretaries or case coordinators.
On April 15, 2018, the Commission was informed that Lankiveil had passed away. The members of the Commission expressed their heartfelt condolences in a message to Lankiveil's widow, also praising his hard work and commitment; a copy of the message was posted on Lankiveil's user page on the English Wikipedia. It was agreed that Pajz would fill in as a full member for the rest of the term.
