General Information

The group is an Arm of the Igbo Wikimedians User Group, Wikimedia Community User Group Nigeria and WMF in general.

Background

[edit]

Adaora Obuezie joined the Wikimedia Community User Group Nigeria as a novice, practically confused on the rudiments of edits where she was eventually liberated with the inception of the first-ever African Librarians week #AfLibWk, One Librarian, One Reference #1Lib1Ref campaign which took place from 24th – 30th May 2020 with the theme, “Promoting African Scholars to the World”. This lubricated her interest in contributing to Wikimedia projects. Obuezie's participation in the all-virtual campaign where she was one of the first 50 top contributors strengthened her knowledge in contributing to Wikipedia and its sister projects as well as getting fully involved as a Wikimedian. She further participated in the 2020 online pilot cohort of the Wikipedia in African Library course and became one of the champions for the 3rd African Librarians week 1Lib1Ref campaign in 2022. She leveraged her involvement in all these campaigns to volunteer in some in-person and virtual Wikipedia training such as the Awka Igbo Wikipedia Training organized by Nkem Osuigwe which took place from the 29th to 30th of March, 2021 and the 1Lib1Ref: outreach and campaign sustainability in Anambra State organized by Ngozi Osuchukwu which took place on the 9th of August 2022, among others. The training was successful as participants turned up in numbers, learnt and made an impressive contribution to Wikipedia space. This journey brought her to realize the need to get Wikipedia into the Academic community where she works as a lecturer in the Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The interested Academia (students and staff) will be recruited and enlightened on the relevance of Wikimedia projects in Research and education in general. They will be trained on how to actively get involved in the WMF movement. For interest, feedback, follow-up and assistance she will create a WhatsApp group for a start where the progress of the interested participants can be monitored and mentored. Join the WhatsApp group
