Hubs are allowed to engage in revenue generation and fund distribution activities after signing an agreement that commits them to adhering to the fundraising policy. Hubs are required to fully document their revenue generation and funds distribution activities, and to report them to the Wikimedia Movement as a whole. The Hub will keep Wikimedia communities, affiliates, and its members informed about such initiatives, their timeline, and their outcomes. The responsibility of the transparent and fair distribution of the funds lies with the Hub undertaking the revenue generating activity.

Revenue generation[edit]

  • Hubs can engage in revenue generation.
  • When Hubs engage in revenue generation activities, they must adhere to local laws as well as the fundraising policy established by the Global Council.

Funds distribution[edit]

  • As organized charities, nonprofits or their local equivalents, Hubs can make grants to allocate funds to Hub members and other recipients eligible within their scope, in pursuit of Wikimedia Movement related activities. If Hubs do grantmaking, these funds must be allocated to contribute to the Hub’s mission, and done in compliance with all applicable laws and policies set by the Global Council.
  • Hubs involved in funds distribution need to have a transparent process to allocate resources.
  • Hubs involved in funds distribution need to coordinate with appropriate Fund Committees.
