[edit]

I have been sent an e-mail by MKaur (WMF) to not edit this module directly, and use the organizational form instead to update information about affiliates. Her mail says that editing here directly is NOT recommended.

I didn't get any information that this module cannot be edited directly as

  1. there is no warning or notification in the documentation.
  2. the page is semi-protected hence any auto-confirmed users have access to edit the page.
  3. the documentation page has detailed description on how to add different parameters to that page.

So, I assume, the page creator had no intention to restrict this page from editing.

If the intention has now been changed recently, I would like to suggest the creator or the maintainers of this page to take care of these three points so that users like me can get information that this page can not be edited directly.

  1. Please add a notification in the documentation that editing is NOT recommended.
  2. Please provide a link in the documentation to the organizational form which is supposed to get edited instead.
  3. Please change the protection level of the page to restrict non-admin users from editimg.

Otherwise, users might come again to edit here. Thanks, -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 11:35, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Bodhisattwa ☺️
Thank you very much for your response here on the talk page & thank you so much for the suggestions. We've reacted to all of them, do let me know if anything is missing. We've added notices to all the modules that are not to be edited directly. In addition, the documentation about the page was meant to communicate the meaning of each key/value pair of the Lua table entry.
As for the restriction, we can't limit it to admin only because this will mean using the forms themselves won't be possible by non-admin users. The idea of the forms was to simplify data submission (via an abstraction), the form is just a normal edit but via an organized interface. Hope this is clearer now.
Have a great day. --DAlangi (WMF) (talk) 12:01, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
