This page provides information about vandalism on Meta-Wiki.

Vandalism is any addition, removal, modification of content or any other action consciously and deliberately done to harm the project. Vandalism is not and will not be tolerated on Meta-Wiki or other Wikimedia wikis. Usual types of vandalism include (but are not limited to) the following: inserting nonsense or gibberish into pages, blanking pages, repeated trolling, personal attacks, harassment, obscenity, removing other users' comments and trying to game the system, among others. The concept of vandalism is not limited to the actions previously mentioned.

It is important to know that any wrong or disruptive action, if done in good faith, is not vandalism. Mislabeling good-faith edits as vandalism is considered harmful.

If you see a vandalized page at Meta-Wiki, you may try to revert it yourself to the last legitimate version or, if it is a new page and there is no policy-compliant version in the page history to revert to, tag it with {{delete|Vandalism}}. There are some warning templates that can be used to message the user and ask that user to stop. However, the long-standing Meta-Wiki practices is to block obvious and blatant vandals on sight. If you see a vandal, please report the user to the Meta page for requesting help from a sysop so an administrator can take the appropriate measures. Vandalizing accounts and IP addresses may be blocked by any administrator for any period of time, including indefinitely

[1] (the latter is almost always the case with vandalism-only accounts).

Notes

  1. Although IP addresses are not expected to be blocked indefinitely (except in special cases) to avoid the possibility of blocking legitimate users jumping on dynamic IP addresses, or assignment of a newer IP address.
