Meta:Requests for translation adminship/Jsamwrites

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
The following discussion is preserved as an archive of a closed Meta-Wiki request. Please do not modify it.

For the upcoming months of Wiki Loves Pride 2023, we are planning a series of multilingual events from June to December in languages like English, French, Portuguese. I have been actively editing as well as translating the English and French versions. However, only the English version is up-to-date. I am requesting this translation adminship to be able to easily mark newer changes for translation.

Can you prepare a new page (or a significative content addition) complying with Internationalization guidelines, please? --Pols12 (talk) 21:10, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Pols12 Thanks for your reply. I have created a new page according to the above guidelines, which is available here. This is a real upcoming event. The above page demonstrates the use of multiple <language> tags along with links to translated templates. Please let me know if you require any additional information. Thank @you! No big issue; however, several improvements can be done:
  • You should wrap link targets (URL) inside tvar tag.
  • You should prefix internal link targets (page name) with “Special:MyLanguage/” (in addition to tvar)
  • You should add an empty new line after each heading to make it translatable in a dedicated unit (this also allows anchored section links working on translation pages too).
Please apply these improvements, and I will be glad to support your TA request. 🙂

@Pols12 Thanks for your detailed reply with the improvements. I have taken into consideration all the above points and updated the page. Please let me know if this is fine. John Samuel 06:10, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please review Minorax’s changes:
  • TVar name must be unique inside the same unit, not in the whole page.
  • If you close the translate tag, there is no need to add an empty new line just before.
  • Minorax preferred splitting the list in one unit per item, but this is not mandatory for such a short list. This though allows to edit it later easier (e.g., if you add an item, it will be added in English in translation pages until it is translated).
