I have translated quite a lot, especially into Basque, within the framework of the Basque Wikimedians User Group, especially in the Education Program (Dashboard, etc.). I request adminship to avoid delays and interference caused by superfluous issues. Iñaki LL (talk) 15:29, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Comment I have doubts:
    • You got to make a request at the third attempt.
    • I corrected it twice.
    • Your last translation was on February 12, 2018.
    • You are not TA in another wiki. The need, the procedure and the background, are they at the rendez-vous? —Eihel (talk) 16:15, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Eihel, sorry for the mistakes. I got quite lost in the maze of admin requests, so I autocorrected myself. I am doing quite a lot of things, so I do not grasp all the details immediately. I have translated quite a lot of material both in Meta-wiki, especially related Education, e.g. Dashboard, main translator in Basque) and Translatewiki. So I also extend my request for adminship to Translatewiki, if possible. Regards Iñaki LL (talk) 08:30, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As it happens, my latest translations were made in Mediawiki, see here and here. (The Comparative review was also translated, but will be attached as an annex page in the Basque Wikipedia) Should I request adminship specifically for Mediawiki also? Thanks Iñaki LL (talk) 08:51, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This status is a technical status, but it is accessible to everyone who wants it. A request for TA has no prerequisites, except that of producing a valid reason. The user who makes several attempts to make a request, I wonder if he will not "mix the brushes" to mark a page for translation and spread a page of poor quality. Then the one who asks me if it is necessary to apply for this status on another wiki, I wonder about the purpose and the know-how of the candidate. Do you know what TA status is? There is no need for this status to simply translate pages. Mark a page for translation is not complicated, but asks for the method. My opinion will be Neutral Neutral not to block the impulses of good will and not to limit the users participating in wikis with an language isolate. I leave it to others to make a decision.Eihel (talk) 15:33, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Eihel: Really? I did not know I had to overcome so many hurdles to become a Translation Admin. I am myself a professional translator, working voluntarily on Wikipedia for over 11 years across different projects. I confess I do not know many details of all the projects I am involved, like many volunteers in Wikimedia I learn as I go. I have translated half of the Dashboard to Basque, something I did with a professional eye and relying on my knowledge of Wikipedia. And I am very happy with the outcome, except that I had to keep asking admins to prepare texts for translation, a nuisance both for me and for the admin in question.
We have also been dragging an issue with <translate> codes for over an year; certain segments had to be left without translation, since the source could not be found. After asking in Phabricator someone there told us that it is "not so easy" to prepare these segments for translation. This has affected the Dashboard interface, used by almost 2,500 students joining the Basque Education Program in Wikipedia, who find every now and then segments irregularly left in English, instead of Basque.
I take Meta-Wiki to be the 'parent' organizational project of all other Wikimedia projects hence my question above, but that was a question. I talked to Sam Walton (pinging him now) in Wikimania, who listened to my experience and handicaps in the translation of the Dashboard, and addressed one of the issues, the translation of one such segments, on the spot. He suggested translation adminship to deal with these issues more fluently. Iñaki LL (talk) 23:24, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
