First of all, sorry for the automatic translation that I made from Spanish to English.
For almost a year I'm hoping the prizes promised to the challenge then I link:
Every time I ask the organizers about it, they ask me back to my data and my address and tell me that they have problems and I understand, but I also understand that after a year still do not receive the promised prizes.
I understand that this is a collaborative project but you should not promise things and then not deliver because this is called fraud.
After so long now I understand that never receive awards for which I got involved, and that this competition has been a scam. I am deeply deceived and disappointed with the project. Rauletemunoz You talking to me? 16:50, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- This is the wrong place to raise an issue like this. You should contact an organizer for the challenge. I remember there was a long discussion on Wikimedia Forum (now in the archives) about this; not sure about how it ended though.. --Glaisher (talk) 16:56, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- I do not receive any information from the organizers on the status of objects which belong to me, and for this reason I have decided to make a formal complaint here because your service is being used to offer some gifts that are then not supplied.
- In other words, they are using this service for a scam and it is for this reason that I think you have to know. Rauletemunoz You talking to me? 18:56, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
I'm sorry but this is not something that we - meta admins & crats - can resolve or mediate/arbitrate. +1 for Wikimedia forum per Glaisher. — regards, Revi 10:30, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Bureaucrat needed to decide on some discussions
Hello. After 20 days, I'd like a bureaucrat other than me to have a look at the fair use discussion and the deletion policy modification proposal if possible, and enact the results. Thank you. —MarcoAurelio 10:58, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
- I don't know why you think it should be a bureaucrat and not just a normal sysop? But anyway, as I am both, I have closed the latter discussion and enacted its result, as it was very clear. The other one is also clear to me, but I think maybe it would be useful to advertise the discussion a bit more first. What do other sysops or bureaucrats think? --MF-W 02:43, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you MF-Warburg. In absence of a clear policy on how to make policies and how to make them, I prefer to take the conservative approach of asking fellow 'crats to take care and validate the results. Sorry if you think it is innapropriate, and thanks for taking care of this. —MarcoAurelio 08:31, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
- No problem. I agree with your approach, I only wanted to say that IMHO also "ordinary" sysops can be involved, not only the bureaucrats. --MF-W 22:02, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you & agree. Best regards. —MarcoAurelio 20:07, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

User has requested deletion of this talk page per ticket:2015081010020541
Thank you.--ukexpat (talk) 14:07, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- Done. Don't have the rights to view that ticket, but given that it just contained an automatic welcome message, I do not think it matters. But we don't usually delete user talk pages generally. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio 20:06, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Wikinger sock
Could somebody please lock incubator:User:Ͱελληνικος, it's a Wikinger sock and has been messing up pages on the "grc" incubator wiki. Thanks, – Fut.Perf. ☼ 21:50, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

Indef blocked IPs (except "proxy"ies)
This came up on IRC and I'm adding this list here so I can take a look at it later and we can investigate whether these are still needed. Glaisher (talk) 18:22, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

- Just a note but ENWP has a lot more indefinitely blocked IP's that are not proxies besides these. Some are valid and some are not, but this list is not nearly all inclusive. Its also worth noting that some IP's are blocked through edit filters, so although its not technically a block it functionally acts the same. Reguyla (talk) 14:36, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
- I don't understand why you are making mention of English Wikipedia's blocks here; English Wikipedia is much larger than this wiki so obviously they would've more blocks than us. Also blocks by abusefilter are different from it's disallowing function but these blocks also works the same as a normal block. The indefinite block which you are seeing on this list is there because of the default configuration for IP blocks by the abusefilter. We got that changed around December last year so indefinite blocks wouldn't be applied for IPs anymore. Regards, --Glaisher (talk) 12:37, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
- I believe that IP blocks should only be for a finite period. I thought that I had amended all of mine, though clearly I had missed one ... fixed. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by billinghurst (talk) 13:18, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Follow up
There are hundreds on indefblocks on IPs here [1]. Many of them are very old, and some were automatically blocked by a maintenance script I guess ("Auto-added for persistent vandalism; possible open proxy."). Would it be of any usefulness to start unblocking some, say, performed before 2012 and check if they're still problematic? (ping those who blocked some of them @Pathoschild, Korg, Mindspillage, Amgine, Nakon, .anaconda, Yann, Barras, DerHexer, and Brion VIBBER:. Best regards. —MarcoAurelio 10:59, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
- Comment I am not an admin here anymore, so I will let others take care of this. Regards, Yann (talk) 17:54, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- 'm not a sysop either but as a general rule I think it would be beneficial if blocks older than 2-3 years be unblocked. IMO, longterm blocks like these, which may have served a purpose at some point, also prevent good editors from contributing to the project. Reguyla (talk) 17:59, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- Many of the IPs I blocked are still assigned to web hosts and proxies (based on a few whois lookups like this), but I have no objections if you want to unblock them. —Pathoschild 13:28, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- If they're still proxies, then better blocked. Thanks. —MarcoAurelio 13:40, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- Perhaps someone could write a script to look for indefinite blocked IPs and check them against a list of proxies and then check whether it's still usable? --Glaisher (talk) 12:55, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- I think @RonaldB: has a similar database. --Glaisher (talk) 12:57, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- If they're still proxies, then better blocked. Thanks. —MarcoAurelio 13:40, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- Checked above list against my database. Except for the last two, these IPs are NOT open proxies (and have never been so). The last two entries (50.x and 107.x) belong to a range of webservers, so may be in use by web proxies. Cloud technologies may cause such webservers to change IPs every now and then. So better to block 107.167.64.0/19 (50.x is already a range). But be aware, this is only a tiny tip of the iceberg. - RonaldB (talk) 11:47, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- Many of these were blocked as web proxies, not open proxies. At the time we treated dedicated hosting providers as web proxies, because we only saw traffic from them if someone was connecting through them (i.e. using them as proxies). They were often abused at the time, which is why they were blocked on sight. I'm fine with unblocking web servers if things have changed; I'm not up to date with countervandalism efforts anymore. —Pathoschild 13:29, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Request for MassMessage sender permission
Hi sysops and 'crats, I've just started a community organizer position with Community Resources with the WMF. There are some messages related to the WMF grants programs that I will need to send out via MassMessage across Wikimedia projects as a means to invite broad feedback starting on 17 August. These messages will be sent to 1) village pumps and similar community discussion areas across projects and 2) To individuals who have made contributions in the Grants: namespace. For what it's worth, I am an admin on the English Wikipedia and have experience using the MassMessage system locally. If you have any questions for me, please let me know. With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 00:48, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- @I JethroBT (WMF): I have granted you the right, with autopatroller as a gift :-) Please use the right wisely. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio 09:27, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

Blocked User:Babel AutoCreate
I have blocked the extension named above until it stops creating meaningless, false or otherwise empty categories for languages. I am not sure if a task exist for this, given mw:Extension:Babel#Releases (last one about case-insensitiviness), but it is annoying to go after this deleting all that stuff. Feel free to unblock if you disagree. Thanks. —MarcoAurelio 18:17, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- As far as I understand, the extension create the categories for a language when someone save or preview a (user)page with the associated babel lang code. So if the extension is creating meaningless or false categories, it's because someone is doing it indirectly (by mistake or deliberately). -- KTC (talk) 18:52, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes. We can chase those incorrect categories later once they're created, by editting their user pages; but those categories will remain empty. I think phab:T63993 may solve most of this. There are also other related bugs regarding this behaviour. Thanks. —MarcoAurelio 19:00, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- @MarcoAurelio: What do you mean by false categories? Is it creating categories that don't belong to any language? --Glaisher (talk) 12:14, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- Special:DeletedContributions/Babel AutoCreate --Vogone (talk) 13:25, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Vogone. Basically duplicating or triplicating categories for the same language (e.g.: es, Es, ES). See for example Category:User gom. The extension don't even recognize such language... Best regards, —MarcoAurelio 13:28, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Forgot password, no email, requesting account access
Hello. User:Ejecutivo did not give an email when registering his account. He has forgotten his password and asked me if there is a way that he can have account access. Is it possible for someone to assign an email address to his account, then send him a password reset?
I wanted to ask because he has made some contributions to Commons which ought to be associated with an organization, the en:Vallarta Botanical Gardens. In the Commons description of this file, he self identified as "Neil Gerlowski", and on that organization's website "Neil Gerlowski" is listed as executive director. I also met Neil in person to discuss a partnership between Wikimedia projects and the Vallarta Botanical Gardens.
I see no where in Meta or English Wikipedia any answer - yes or no - to the question of whether account resets can be done when there is evidence to confirm someone's identity. Here is relevant discussion.
- Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2007-05-14/Committed identity
- Meta:Requests_for_help_from_a_sysop_or_bureaucrat/Archives/2012-05#Lost_Password_for_DieWeisseRose
- en:Wikipedia:User account security
Is there a process for confirming identity and granting account access? User:Ejecutivo, whom I met in person and is Neil Gerlowski, would like his password assigned as neil@vbgardens.org (the organization's official website) and have a password reset there. Is this possible? Blue Rasberry (talk) 22:13, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
- File a task on phabricator or hop on to #wikimedia-techconnect on IRC and ask for a sysadmin. If you can convince a sysadmin and if someone is willing to do it, it can be done. I'm not sure whether there's written policy on it but I remember that it has happened once or twice before. --Glaisher (talk) 12:24, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- For the record there is a kinda policy on Wikitech but it's a bit looser. The biggest thing is that whomever is doing it needs to be confidant that they are the same person which is sometimes a bit more art then science. In my staff capacity I've done it occasionally but anyone with shell access can do so if they're comfortable (they should log it in the sysadmin log). Jamesofur (talk) 03:30, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
Request for MassMessage sender permission
Hi. I'm working with Johan on Tech/News, mostly as his back-up for vacations/etc. I'd like to request MassMessage sender permission, for the rare occasions when I'll need to step in. Archives (वर्तमान)
In the top bar of Meta:Requests for deletion, using German interface, there appears the thing mentioned in the title in the place where on all other pages there is "Archives (current)". Edit filter error 29-08-2015
I received this warning when posting an edit request to Talk:Don't be a jerk:
Warning: This action has been automatically identified as harmful. Unconstructive edits will be quickly reverted, and may result in your account or IP address being blocked from editing. If this action is constructive, you may submit it again, and report this error. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.
So I’m reporting it here, where the “report this error” link took me. —67.14.236.50 06:03, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
And again on User talk:Tharthan. —67.14.236.50 06:14, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- This filter has a quite complicated regex and is bound to get many FPs. I rewrote it last year but it was catching lots of FPs so I didn't enable warning and tagging. MarcoAurelio enabled warn and tag recently but I think we still need to improve it before it should have warn again. I've made it log and tag only now. Regards, --Glaisher (talk) 08:11, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks! I suspect it was triggered because my edits included the word “dick,” but that seems pretty arbitrary to me. —67.14.236.50 19:38, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
