CentralNotice Banners translation
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, but I couldn't find a more suitable one.
There are thousands of what appear to be system messages flagged for translation under CentralNotice banners (example). Are they really supposed to be translated and if yes, how? There's no indication of where or how would those messages be used. — Yerpo Eh? 17:58, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
- In theory yes -- reality is no, there's too much junk, ignore it. We do not yet have code to remove messages from translation after a banner has finished running and we have banners with translation parts that are actually just variables. Therefore, the path that most groups have been taking is to either directly reach out to the translation community with the banner they want translated, or they include a link in the banner itself leading to the translation page. Also; with the banner you linked to, those messages are really just variable placeholders that do need to be translated -- so it's just more junk which can be ignored. Thanks for the question -- hope that helps -- sorry it's still so broken. Mwalker (WMF) (talk) 09:50, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification. Documentation would really help people like me that come to this part of Meta through the translation interface instead of the banner management space. — Yerpo Eh? 20:37, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
Request for help with en.wp block
Hi, I'm mistakenly blocked on en.wp due to en:User:Bishonen thinking I'm another user. I can't edit my own talk page there. Can someone point her to my talk page here, or ask her to unprotect my talk page on en.wp so I can communicate over there about the issue? Thanks. 50.0.121.102 13:32, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

- Thank you, Vogone. I'm afraid I have a lot of trouble believing that my block of the IP is mistaken. But I'll restore talk page access, so that they can post an unblock request. Bishonen (talk) 13:47, 15 January 2014 (UTC).
- Thanks, Vogone and Bishonen. 50.0.121.102 13:53, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Request for uploader status
Hello,
As board member of Wikimedia France, I occasionally need to upload files in this wiki. I currently need to upload some reports for our FDC process and I will be pleased to upload it myself. I saw that I need now to be an "uploader" and that I need to request this flag. So, here I am :) ShreCk (talk) 22:24, 22 December 2013 (UTC).
- @ShreCk: I have some questions I would like to ask before you are granted this permission:
- What is the license for File:2010_Short_Financial_Report_WMFr.pdf? Will you add license info in the future?
- Why would you like to upload to Meta instead of Commons?
- Cdlt, PiRSquared17 (talk) 22:41, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. Thank you for your fast reply, and sorry for my delay ... (holiday season :/). I need to upload the audited financial statement of Wikimedia France. As the document is public it's not a problem to upload on Commons but I'm unsure if there is a place for this document on Commons and what licence I can add for this file if applicable. What do you think ? ShreCk (talk) 22:26, 8 January 2014 (UTC).
- Could a bureaucrat please review this request? PiRSquared17 (talk) 15:40, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
- Can someone with knowledge of Commons say whether that document can be uploaded on Commons? --MF-W 23:20, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
- Can you specify the copyright license and authorship for it? TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 23:46, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
- I can't clearly know for now (we ask to our accountant), so I will upload the file on our website and I'll attach an external link for our report. I'll inform you when I know more. Thank you for your help. ShreCk (talk) 22:57, 22 January 2014 (UTC).

Rename or delete MediaWiki:Booksourcetext
These messages are not used by MediaWiki.
What is currently used instead is MediaWiki:Booksources-text. Could you please rename them accordingly? Or, can we perhaps delete them as it has been unused for years? As translatewiki:MediaWiki:Booksources-text/en shows, it seems to have been replaced in 2008. whym (talk) 00:28, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
- Which course of action would you prefer? I think the existing translations from TWN are good enough, so I think deletion is fine. PiRSquared17 (talk) 19:52, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
- The essential difference is in the added part of "Meta is not affiliated with any of these businesses, ...". I think unlike Wikipedia we have little risk of making people confused about this. So, I would rather delete. whym (talk) 22:56, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Request for a global message delivery
Hi, I've just created the oldwikisource:Wikisource:Language categories on Commons and wanted to delivery a message for all Wikisource wikis announcing it. What is the right place/way to request it? Lugusto • ※ 19:40, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
- If you put the text here, an admin (or MassMessage sender) can deliver it to this list. I would prefer to give it a day or two to be translated, but it's not necessary. PiRSquared17 (talk) 23:43, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
