Dear all, I would like to ask for checkuser-access on Meta for having primarily permanent access to the checkuser-log, to learn from experienced checkusers here on Meta and maybe to help out due to the fact that I am quite active here. Question/comment. As long as you have time to spend learning the ropes, I see no problem extending the privileges to a trusted user. Do you have time? (Kinda assuming you do since you made the request, but it does not hurt to ask.)FloNight 13:50, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If what you wanted was log access and not to run checks here, any steward can have CU at meta for that, there is no need for a vote (with the understanding that it is taken away again if you are no longer a steward), just a request for the permission. In practice Meta does not need further Checkusers. It is a small wiki and there is little to do. However I have always felt that CU is often used to its best when employed by front line RC watchers. Equally I do have concerns about the ability of stewards, who are inexperienced with the tool, using it in complex cases and I reflect on how little I knew when I started using it.
