I was talking with Eagle 101 on irc and it seems he could use a little more help on the spam blacklist. I'm a sysop on enWP since January 2006 and an OTRS volunteer, and I've been participating in debates on the spam blacklist since April 2006. I have no idea if this qualifies me, but I thought I'd offer anyway. Just zis Guy, you know? 08:27, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment - I'd like to see a "sig" that pointed here rather than Wikipedia, and email set up here too? --Herby talk thyme 08:52, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Ok I will expand on my comment (it is personal but so is my vote). In practice it was about approach as much as detail. On Commons as well I often find a user page (usually a Wikipedian) that only consists of links to their user page and talk page on their "home" wiki. This is not helpful to people who work on that wiki - I am unsure why I should login to Wikipedia to contact someone about a Commons matter but I look on it as incovenient. Seeking sysop rights I'm afraid I find the approach inadequate --Herby talk thyme 10:06, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose unless s/he includes his or her meta user page into signature and fill other requeirement (email address etc). I don't think it is a proper way for sysop candidates to point to the other project. --Aphaia 09:06, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]- No valid email address is given. I think the candidate don't fill the requirement (see the above; mail contact is required). He isn't therefore eligible to request for the sysop right. I think I need to keep my vote. We shouldn't allow our sysops to escape the rule in that way (email is in, but not enabled). I think it a serious violation to the spirit of policy. --Aphaia 11:17, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This appears to be a technical problem (or maybe user error). I have had email enabled on my enWP account from the outset, I have changed the address here to one which bypasses my spam filter, I have received and replied to the confirmation mail, but it does not appear to work yet. Maybe it's a cacheing issue.Fixed now. I went through the process again, this time I have been able to email myself. JzG 13:17, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]- Email activation is confirmed, my opposition withdrawn. --Aphaia 17:33, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose Per Aphaia, will change as necessary.Switch to Support. Majorly (hot!) 09:31, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- OK, easily done. Email address was in but emailing was not enabled (simple oversight). JzG 09:34, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Changed to support. Majorly (hot!) 09:38, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support. Has been down at the blacklist's talk page for months now, if assistance is needed JzG is a good choice. – Steel en:Steel 13:28, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- JzG is a very capable admin at en:wp, and is active on the OTRS list, handling tickets that others shy away from. I have nothing but respect for his approach and contributions and think he will make a fine addition to the meta admin roll. The email thingie was surely just a glitch (I find mine seems to turn itself off from time to time as well, haven't been able to reproduce it or I would have put a bug in already). I do agree with Herbie and others that JzG's sig should point here. I have every expectation that JzG will fix that with alacrity, though. (and I recommend my WikiMatrix page as a tool to consider (for anyone) to use to show where all your IDs are) Support ++Lar: t/c 13:43, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Support Funnily enough, I'm no great fan of much of that which JzG does qua admin on en.wiki, and I'm not at all sure that I'd support him were he up for resysopping there; our differences, though, are principally over what policy ought to be and only minimally over the fashion and style in which he carries out policy, and I continue to think him to be capable and sensible. He is surely more-than-qualified to deal ministerially with blacklist issues, etc., and so he will make a fine meta admin. Joe 04:48, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support an obviously trustworthy user, especially for work on spam blacklist, but would like to see a little more kindness and respect (at en:) towards slightly troubled, slightly obnoxious users who may be suffering from personal problems or even mental difficulties.
