The following discussion is closed: No consensus to move.--Syum90 (talk) 11:47, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

Hello. I have planned to move the template {{Interwiki redirect}} to {{Soft redirect}}, and the page is fully protected, and can only be moved by sysops. Please can somewone move this template to {{Soft redirect}}. Psl85 Talk 19:09, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

@Psl631: I don't see a valid reason for this. Can you elaborate? hiàn 03:11, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

The page currently covers the WMF team. It would be useful to have a page documenting Wikimedia fundraising in general and how it works at Fundraising, and the page for the team could be more unambiguously about the team, with links to other WMF teams for context. --Yair rand (talk) 05:53, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

The move would be inconsistent with the naming of other pages for other WMF departments that share responsibility in areas. The extension of that logic would be that both communications and community engagement undergo similar moves? Seddon (WMF) (talk) 12:18, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
@Seddon (WMF): Hm, good question. We have some fairly inconsistent naming already: compare Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director, Wikimedia Foundation Advancement department, Wikimedia Foundation/Talent and Culture, Legal, Community Resources, Community Tech. Does the WMF make a firm distinction between "teams" and "departments"? If so, I think the teams could be moved to this system, leaving redirects behind where appropriate. Is there a central list of WMF teams? Teams/Wikimedia Foundation teams/List of Wikimedia Foundation teams are redlinks. --Yair rand (talk) 22:55, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
The On-wiki documentation working group is working on a proposal now to hopefully help with with some of this, and are planning to share it on-wiki very soon. The only delay has been making sure the proposal does not present any problems for teams internally in regards to commitments or technical abilities. But essentially we are going to propose a few new namespaces to help with issues like identifying which pages are actively maintained by and about the Foundation. As has been pointed out here, there are search, naming, and maintenance problems which exists. For example, there are pages created about the Foundation, but not by anyone at the Foundation, which over time people then expect the Foundation to maintain - which is problematic in that we are often unaware the page was even created in the first place, let alone yet assessed if we are able to maintain it long-term. Locating information on Foundation or Affiliate specific teams is challenging as everything resides in one general place with various naming schemas used. I have heard from several affiliates that they run into this problem as well, and so we are keeping that in mind. Apologies that the proposal is not yet on Meta-Wiki (I do not mean for it to sound mysterious or anything - we want to be very open about the discussion and will not be implementing anything without community discussion first), but again, I wanted to make sure we could follow through on the various ideas before we opened up discussions with the Meta-Wiki community about the ideas. Regarding the list of teams, I have been working on updates to Wikimedia Foundation departments and it now has the most recent list of departments and teams. --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 17:41, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
@GVarnum-WMF: what would you like done with the rename requests.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:14, 7 November 2018 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: I would like to hear community input on our ideas before really giving any input "officially". More I wanted to let folks know there are folks within the organization thinking about it and we will be asking for feedback on the topic. --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 00:14, 14 November 2018 (UTC)

The historical 2011-12 process is currently occupying a space that would be much better occupied by a page detailing the current situation on fundraising and funds dissemination, including useful links and history. --Yair rand (talk) 05:29, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

This makes sense to me. – Ajraddatz (talk) 23:47, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

Done with a redirect only at the root page.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:00, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Breaking all the external links to all those pages (e.g. Fundraising and Funds Dissemination/WMF staff memo is something that is referenced a whole lot) seems like a terrible idea to me. Could you move it back and redo the move, with redirects enabled this time? --Tgr (talk) 21:36, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

(Also I would use something like Fundraising and Funds Dissemination/2011-12 process to make things a little more organized, but that's just nitpicking.) --Tgr (talk) 21:39, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

@Ajraddatz, Billinghurst, and Tgr: Someone with the move-subpages user right should probably move the pages back to their original form because there are a lot of red links. After that, either move them back to "2011-12 Fundraising and Funds Dissemination process" or use Tgr's idea (which I personally like). But in any case, preserve redirects when moving please. Oh damn! I had started doing that, when I lost Firefox I clearly forgot to get back to it, and didn't have the markers.  — billinghurst sDrewth 04:42, 20 March 2019 (UTC)

(Pinging @Nemo bis and EGalvez (WMF):, who commented regarding the title on the talk page.) The title used in the content of the page is "Survey Support Desk" and I don't think the length will be an issue. The page "Surveys" should doing something else really. ("Survey help" could work if length is really expected to be an issue, but the page's own label should reflect the title, imo.) --Yair rand (talk) 01:07, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

@EGalvez (WMF): Decision?  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:18, 7 November 2018 (UTC)
Apparently EGalvez no longer works for the WMF. The page says that surveys are now handled by the "Learning & Evaluation" team. Pinging @JAnstee (WMF):, who heads the team. --Yair rand (talk) 21:12, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
I agree it should be under Survey Support Desk, or perhaps Survey Support. JAnstee (WMF) (talk) 01:14, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. (Any Meta admin available to move the page? The target has a page history...) --Yair rand (talk) 04:41, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
Done @Yair rand: Please check if there's any error. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 15:25, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
