Whole-page translations[edit]To add a translation for a whole page on Meta, first translate the title. If the title is the same in both languages, add the target language to the end of the name. The original article for this page was in English, named Interlanguage links, so the Simple English translation is titled Interlanguage links (simple). At the top of each page, put a list of small links to the other translations of the page. 'Parent' articles[edit]It helps to have a single version that is most new. If there is a long list of data on a page, for instance, keep it on one page only. From each translation of that page, link back to the long list of data. You can have a message at the top of each translated page, saying the newest information is on "original page". You can start a translation, even if you are not good at writing in the target language. See the list of translators for people who can help you with translations. First steps[edit]Translation is hard! You can start by adding a sidebar, like the one on this page on the right, to an article. To do this, first write a one-sentence summary of the page, then translate it into a few languages. You can use Babelfish to help you do this. This will help others to know if they should care about what is on that page. It will also remind visitors that it is a multi-language page. |
