Appearance
The user has been banned for an inappropriate username on enwiki and itwiki (on itwiki by the abuse filter). The requested username shows the name of the school in its initials, and I saw no reference to such a case on the enwiki policy page. I would love to know what to do in such a case... Thank you very much! Neriah - 💬 - 07:19, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- Neriah, on enwiki it's been blocked incorrectly as a bot account instead of as a promotional account. The newer template explains to the user that "you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company"." My normal practice is to rename and to unblock (if I can) and to leave a note informing the blocking admin (either for their information or for them to perform the unblock).
- Dewiki and Commons have a tolerance for corporate names under certain conditions. Cabayi (talk) 09:00, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Cabayi, thank you very much for the answer. I will change the name and request the release of the block. Neriah - 💬 - 09:06, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- @User:Neriah, the new name is not a name of an employee or an individual, it's a rewording of the name of the school which name is "British School Milan - Sir James Henderson". --Civvì (talk) 09:08, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Civvì Now (after the response to Cabayi) I saw this about the school in the English Wikipedia. Am I right that according to this this username also does not comply with the rules, so reject the change request? Neriah - 💬 - 09:13, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- Good catch Civvì. In that case I give my pre-canned "Usernames may not represent a group, organisation, or business, a role within them, a product, a service, or a website. Your real name is not required, just something unique to you that represents YOU, not your job. Please read the Username policy - https://w.wiki/WPW - and choose another name." - Cabayi I don't know the username policy on enwiki but that would be very similar to what I would reply for itwiki :-) --Civvì (talk) 09:23, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
