Add upcoming office hours to this calendar using the following format:
{{Upcoming office hour | day = | date = DD (ie, 10) | month = MM (ie, 03) | year = YYYY | start_hour = HH (ie, 19) | start_minute = MM | end_hour = HH | end_minute = MM | with = Name of individual attending, (ie, Sue Gardner) | topic = | location = }}
To move the completed office hours into the list below, simply change "Upcoming office hour" to "Completed office hour" in the template name, and move the template down. Then create the log entry:
To create a log entry, open the plain text log in one tab/window, and the meeting's date link in another. Copy this text into the empty meeting page:
Chat on TOPIC <br> Caturday 33 Octember 2010 <br> 18:00 - 19:00 UTC <br> <poem style="font-family:monospace,Courier;background:#F2F2F2"> <nowiki> </nowiki> </poem> [[Category:IRC office hours logs]]
Fix the topic/date/time.
Finally, copy and paste the relevant portion from the plain text log, to the space between the nowiki tags. Done!I'd suggest updating the editnotice, with the above. Quiddity (talk) 03:28, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

- The new version of the edit notice is obnoxiously long. Nobody wants to click "edit" and face a wall of text. In addition, the syntax being proposed (nowiki/poem) is super-hackish. The "syntaxhighlight" tag should probably be used instead. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:36, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- Yes it's a lot longer, but it will (hopefully) prevent the ongoing problems with people missing a step. I won't suggest collapsing it, because collapse is evil. (Evil!). By all means, edit the template above, to trim it down, or re-arrange/re-format it. Or help make/suggest a new simple system, for people who don't use this page often, to do the necessary steps more easily? (There's a template-preload system I've seen somewhere, but I don't know anything about it).

- The (nowiki/poem) syntax is just what I found to be in use (in recent logs) - if there's something better, then please alter the above template to use it! (I've found mw:Extension:SyntaxHighlight GeSHi, but which language would we best specify? Any other needed/preferred parameters?)

[edit]I've just edited Template:Upcoming office hour to calculate the day of the week from the date automatically, making the "day" parameter redundant. Could someone remove it from this edit notice too? The new text should be as follows:

- Also, maybe change the "Sue Gardner" wording, seeing as she isn't working for the WMF anymore. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 10:56, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
- Done, though I left the Sue Gardner line -- I think it should remind people to not use the example. Courcelles 23:57, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
