Meatspace
Meatspace (also MeatSpace) is a term referring to the part of a Wikimedian's life that occurs face-to-face. It is frequently contrasted with cyberspace, the interactions which occur online. The term is often used in place of phrases like "real world" or "in real life" to avoid implying that interactions online are not part of real life. Wikis exist in the real world, and our online interactions have real impacts on people both directly and indirectly. Distinguishing on-wiki activities from real life makes recognizing those effects harder and can encourage users to treat editing like a role-playing game rather than a serious collaborative project. By using terms like meatspace, wikimedians can refer to their in person interactions without diminishing the importance or reality of their online interactions.
