What is happening in Let’s Connect this month

Some activities that took place this month:

  • We had our phase 2 kick off meeting! Did you miss it? Here is the recording and presentation. See our calendar space for translated recordings.
  • The working group presented Let’s Connect pilot phase learning and phase 2 to the Volunteer Supporters Network. We have had a great partnership this year sharing learning spaces and we hope to continue this in the next phase! Here is the presentation we gave.

Learning Clinics

1. Wikimedia Belgium: Managing Wikimedia projects with Wikidata

When? Thursday 8th of December: 4-6 PM UTC
For whom? There are some skills prerequisite for this Clinic, please review these and make sure you fulfill them before registering.

2. Wikimedia UK: Thinking about diversity, equity and inclusion in affiliate leadership

When? Thursday 15th of December: 5-6.30 PM UTC
For whom? For whom? This Clinic is mainly for affiliate groups that already have governance structures in place. However if you believe it is relevant for your user group you can register to join. You can also view via youtube in this link.

3. Wikimedia Israel: reflections about board, team and volunteer management

Before Revital Poleg steps down as executive director, she will be sharing some reflections about board, team and volunteer management.

For whom? This Clinic is mainly for affiliate groups that already have team and governance structures in place. However if you believe it is relevant for your user group you can register to join.

Wikimedia Foundation Campaigns Team Office Hour

Who? The Wikimedia Foundation Campaigns Team invites you to join any of their upcoming office hours. The event will be multilingual, with live interpretations in Arabic, English, French, and Swahili.
For what? During these office hours, we will introduce V1 of the Event Registration Tool, so you can begin using it for real events on Meta-wiki.
When? Session 2: Sunday, December 10, 2022, @12:00 UTC Zoom Link.

RightCon Office Hours

The RightsCon call for proposals is open!

An open community call will be held on December 7 from 9:00 -10:00 am ET.

RightsCon is a summit that brings together people from around the world to discuss human rights in the digital age. It is hosted by AccessNow. The conference will take place from 5–9 June 2023. It is a hybrid event, open to online participation as well as in-person in San José, Costa Rica.

News from Movement Strategy

  1. We are in the middle of the community consultation period on the three draft sections of the Movement Charter: Preamble, Values & Principles, and Roles & Responsibilities (statement of intent). The community consultation period will last until December 18, 2022. The Movement Charter Drafting Committee (MCDC) encourages everyone interested in the governance of the Wikimedia movement to share their thoughts and opinions on the draft content of the Charter.

Lets Connect Peer Learning Program Tanzania

The Planning Wikimedia Community User Group Tanzania with support from the Let’s Connect Working Group put together an in-person learning clinic for the Wikimedians in Tanzania. According to one participant Qute Iddy Ninga who says "We should have more clinics which join all organizers so as to plan well how we run communities." We are excited about the work of Justice Msechu and the team at Planning Wikimedia Community User Group Tanzania for leading this Learning Clinic.
