Collecting your cohort usernames
The procedure for gathering usernames for a specific project or program will vary based on how it is implemented.
Online or On-Wiki events
Participants often sign up on an program page (i.e. a Wikiproject). Retrieving usernames from online, available sources does not require any kind of consent.
Face-to-face events
Because in-person events often include new users, there is the chance that new editors will change their username after the event. This learning pattern is a starting point for finding strategies for gathering usernames in-person. Feel free to add your own ideas to make the learning pattern better!
Importantly, anytime you gather username information in-person, it is necessary that you obtain the user's consent to download data about them. The next slide will discuss this further.
