The Wikimedia Language Diversity Hub is a proposed Wikimedia hub for affiliates and volunteers who are working on new language versions of Wikipedia or other Wikimedia projects. These will typically include indigenous, minority, marginalized and under-resourced language communities. The hub is an extension and continuation of the Wikimedia Language Diversity initiative, and is proposed as a result of the Wikimedia 2030 Movement Strategy Recommendations.

The Wikimedia movement is one of the most linguistically diverse projects on the internet, with a global community across all the regions in the world. But despite this vast diversity, similar challenges hinder the growth and progress of underserved languages. Hence, there is a need for a Wikimedia Hub that brings together all the different voices and partners to collectively progress towards the strategic direction of knowledge equity.

Vision

[edit]

The Vision of the Wikimedia Language Diversity Hub is to create a world where every language community can contribute and thrive within the Wikimedia ecosystem, fostering inclusivity, linguistic diversity, and equitable access to knowledge.

Mission

[edit]
To empower and support minority, indigenous, under-served, and under-resourced language communities by providing technical expertise, resources, and advocacy, ensuring their voices are heard and knowledge shared on their own terms for a more inclusive and multilingual Wikimedia ecosystem.
