LUCG Wikimedia Community

LUCG Wikimedia Community is a student-alumni based group with the sole aim of contributing to Wikimedia and its related projects. We oversee all Wikimedia projects at the institution and are run by the alumni and students of Lakeside University College, Ghana. We seek to promote Wikimedia projects among the students through the execution of projects and training as a way of exposing the students to the movement. The aim of this community is to raise young Wikimedians, promote open and free knowledge, and bridge the gender gap in the institution. We aim to achieve this by hosting several projects and events such as edit-a-thons, Wikipedia Education programs, Arts + Feminism events, Wiki Loves campaigns, collaboration with GLAMs, and other related projects that aim to promote Wikimedia projects in the institution.

Objectives

To promote the use of Wikimedia projects among the students of the institution
To help students learn how to contribute to Wikimedia projects
To organize in-person gatherings of Wikimedians in the institution

Proposed Activities

Organizing Edit-a-thons on Wikipedia, Wikisource, Wikidata, and Commons
Promote editing of Ghana-related content on Wikimedia projects
Promote Arts and Feminism
Wikimedia In Residence (WIR)
Help bridge the GENDER gap in the movement
Help bridge CONTENT knowledge gaps
Adding Content to WikiVoyage
