Iranian Wikimedians User Group/Introduction to Wikipedia Conference 2018

The conference was held with the title of Introduction to Wikipedia at University of Tehran on November 22. The conference, which was attended by more than 100 people, was about wikipedia history, the future of wikipedia, contribution reasons and how to write correctly in encyclopedia.

Initially, Mohsen Salek explained and introduced Wikipedia and sister projects, history of Wikipedia and Persian Wikipedia and presented a report on encyclopedia statistics.

Then Fatemeh Mehri spoke on how to correctly write in the encyclopedia and showed some examples of common editing problems .

After a short break, Arash Soleimani, explained the reasons for editing Wikipedia and most common contribution obstacles. Then he talked about the gender equality issue on Wikipedia, and the introduction of women’s projects on Wikipedia.

Then Mohammad Heidarzadeh, talked about the future of Wikipedia and the education program, and reported on the success of our educational program at six universities.

In the following, a video was shown from Sumit Surai about introduction of Wiki Commons that he explained the reasons for participating.

At the end of program, Arash Soleimani, Mohsen Salek and Mohammad Heidarzadeh responded to the questions for 45 minutes.
