International Roma Day
Edit-a-thon
1-15 April 2025
In observance of International Roma Day, April 8, Wikimedia Serbia and Wikimedia CEE Hub are organizing the sixth global edit-a-thon. This initiative will engage Wikipedia volunteers worldwide in creating and improving articles related to Roma communities, focusing on their identity, history, and culture. By spreading the knowledge our goal is to combat still-too-common barriers of prejudice and discrimination they often face while accessing employment, education, health care, public and social services and other areas of life. As Europe's largest minority, Roma people possess a significant historical and cultural legacy. This edit-a-thon seeks to increase visibility and recognition of their contributions, thereby promoting greater equity. You can also contribute to Wikidata and Wikiquote during this event.
The International Roma Day provides an opportunity to celebrate Roma culture and address the ongoing challenges faced by Roma communities. We encourage you to engage with Roma institutions and individuals within your respective countries, introducing them to the collaborative potential of Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. In previous five years, more than 200 participants wrote a total of 903 new articles, while 92 articles were improved on more than 20 language editions of Wikipedia. Also 61 items on Wikidata were created and 260 were improved. Your active participation is highly valued in amplifying this event.
