Full conflict resolution

Are there any plans for fully resolving SUL conflicts? So including multiple users with significant contributions using the same user name. Will there ever be or has it perhaps been decided that there will be no such plans? --Erwin 10:49, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Afaik there will be no further conflict resolution, if someone wants a fully working sul account he needs to usurp the blocking ones (if they have edits ask the owner) or rename to a not yet taken name. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 15:21, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Updating Help, Welcome and FAQ pages, etc.

After reading WP intro pages stating unified login is not available yet, creating an account on WP (my first "target"), then straying (as one does) to WK and reading similar there, I was puzzled to see I was logged in on WK too, but with no User page. On checking preferences there I found the link to "Manage global account", and from there a link to this UL page! Hooray! Congrats to all.

Now, are there any plans for updating the many Help, Welcome and FAQ pages, etc., in all the projects, where they still say unified login is not available yet? Very confusing / discouraging for newcomers. Some exultant, celebratory message is called for! Many of these pages are protected, so a(nother) task for the admins, thanks. -- Bricaniwi 19:25, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I wish to start on this in the en-wiki, currently there's nothing about UL in its search. It took me half an hour to find about UL on en-wiki but when I logged in the merger everything went smooth. I checked and there's info in the meta help, but not in the locals wikis. I will update here if I might do something Colpitz 11:03, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Variable-gender users

Was it intentional that Gender is one of the project-specific preferences? I see I can be male on WP and female on WK if I want! What does this do to "global" mailing lists? -- Bricaniwi 19:25, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

It is weird indeed that one can chose different genders on different wikis, the intention behind this whole gender thing was afaik that the system messages refering to the user can be gender specific in the languages that distinguish them, e.g. German and many others. Unified Error message bug

I tried to create an account on commons with the same username as in the WP - and got the error:

  • Cannot create account: the requested username is already taken in the unified login system.

No further information to resolve this problem is given. Looks like a real bug to me, or is it just a documentation failure? --92.195.162.251 11:29, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, this is not a bug, the accountname is already taken, please chose another one, if it is Your accountname, don't "create" a new account, but just login to the wiki with Your global account password and username. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 11:53, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
I can log on to Wikipedia with this account name - but it is Commons that brings me this message. If one wants to say "the account already exists", than the message is completely misleading. In this case - what is the connection to "Unified login"? --92.195.162.251 16:59, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
What is Your accountname?

--92.195.162.251 21:08, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Yet another Login Problem

I've been on the | New Contributer's Help Page, but apparently my problem requires Experts, and they have referred me to this page.

I began this process at the beginning of January, and the early history can be found at the above link. My Accounts are properly merged -- that was never a problem -- but when I extended my question to "I'd like to be validated on the German site, de.wikipedia.org. How is that requested or made to happen?"

PhantomSteve gave some advice, which I followed, but in the end, my situation is unchanged: I have logged in ("here", = en.wikipedia.org) and checked the "Remember me" box. I opened a new tab (in FireFox), and went to de.wikipedia.org (= "there"). No luck; (1) I am NOT already logged in, (2) if I try to create the account, I'm told it already exists, and (3) if I try to log in, I'm told Das Passwort und/oder das Sicherheitswort (Captcha) ist falsch oder wurde nicht eingegeben.

(Regarding cookies: I "Allow for Session" from all sites that look like Wikipedia and its friends.)

Is it possible that in de.wikipedia.org my password is different somehow? Otherwise, Experts, what else might be wrong, and how do I fix it? (PhantomSteve also wants to know.) DaHorsesMouth 23:17, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

The user acount on the name of DaHorsesMouth has been made on November 11, 2008 at 22:42. As this acount is unatached to yours. I suggest:
  1. If you forgot your password, make a new one and follow the steps on the login page
  2. Mail the user, asking for permission to take over this account.
Hopefully this is of any help to you. --Ida Shaw 15:00, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

I am still confused. I did email the user (on dewiki), and it is me. I changed the password (on dewiki), and I changed the password on enwiki to match. Still, my SUL status is Unattached on dewiki, and dewiki does not log me in automatically.

Is there another step in the process, or should I wait longer for something to happen? 63.231.160.158 02:31, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps this is the answer: Do I have to give myself permission to "take over" the dewiki account? If so, HOW? Or, is it necessary for me to inform someone that DaHorsesMouth on dewiki is the same person as on enwiki? If so, WHO? I have not tried those ideas. 63.231.160.158 02:34, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

You could give it a try at this page, there you can explain your problem. Hopefully this helps. --Ida Shaw 10:48, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
You should be able to solve it by visiting Special:MergeAccount while being logged in. --Erwin 11:04, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

SOLVED! Erwin is closest. What was finally necessary was:

  1. Log in to enwiki
  2. Log in to dewiki (simultaneously -- new tab or whatever)
  3. FROM dewiki, navigate to Spezial:MergeAccount, the German equivalent of Special:MergeAccount.

At that point, dewiki recognises that you have an unattached global login, and prompts for the last step in the process. Gold star to Erwin, thank you sir! DaHorsesMouth 21:45, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Is a unified account tallied as a user in *every* project?

This is a question about statistics of "number of users", such as this plot.
How are SUL users counted? Specifically, if a user creats a unified login, will he be counted as "one user" in *every* wikipedia?
If not, what is the condition for that account to be tallied in one particular wikipedia?
Thanks, and all the best, --143.106.24.25 00:02, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, the [special:listusers] does only show the accounts that had been created on that wiki. Every new account is now a sul account (except if the name is already taken it is not suled), that means the wiki where the user creates the account does list the user there, then the user is only listed in [special:listusers] on a specific wiki when he visits that specific wiki. If these statistics take their data from [Special:GlobalUsers] (which I doubt) they will show all global accounts, but not the non global ones even if it exists on the wiki one views the special page on. Hope that answered Your question. Best regards, --geimfyglið :^╡ 09:34, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Question

Hello, I am german user de:User:Juliana da Costa José and cannot use my en: account because I lost my password and confirmed no emailadress. When I created the account, the singlelog-in was not created. How can I get my account back?

I guess they did find it easily from the page I linked, because it is linked there. But anyway, I put the requestpageindex on the helppage now, feel free to put it there better if You don't like it the way I put it (it is a wiki). Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 15:41, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Is it all or nothing?

I attempted to unify my account. It worked for several wikis, but apparantly there is someone with the same username on the French wikipedia. Does that mean I'll be able to unify everything except that one French Wikipedia, or does it mean I don't get any unification at all until I persuade that French editor to change his name? Readin 04:04, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello. "Does that mean I'll be able to unify everything except that one French Wikipedia" - yes. You already have. To get Your name everywhere see SR/SUL the interwikilinks on the left to the local requestpages (fr.wiki account has 0 edits, should be no problem usurping it). Br., --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 00:38, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Unified login never works!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, there I have unified login, and it tells me that I'm loggin in here and there and there and... But when I go the site I am NOT logged in! This is great because you're doing an edit believing you're logged in but then you find out that you signed with your IP! Something to do about this? Nageh 09:40, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

How many users unified their logins?

Are there statistics about how many users (out of all the users) unified their logins in the different wikipedia? For example, out of all the X users in the English Wikipedia, how many of them are logins unified in all the wikipedias?

If they are not already available, any suggestions on how to extract them? I have tried the following ideas (with very limited success):

* Users can explicitly transclude in their user page the template User_unified_login/userbox (but this is not automatic for all the users who unified their logins so I guess only few users did it). How many? Less than 500, see http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:User_unified_login/userbox&limit=500
* Users can explicitly transclude in their user page the template User_unified_login (but this is not automatic for all the users who unified their logins so I guess only few users did it). How many? Less than 1000, see http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AWhatLinksHere&limit=500&target=Template%3AUser+unified+login&namespace=
* You can check if a user is registered on many wikipedias via the API. For example http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&meta=globaluserinfo&guiuser=Phauly&guiprop=groups%7Cmerged%7Cunattached but I don't know how to get the entire list (I clearly don't want to do an API call for each user in Wikipedia)
* This tool similarly lets you analyze a single user http://toolserver.org/~vvv/sulutil.php?user=phauly but I would like to have stats about all the users.

Any suggestion will be great! Thanks! --Phauly 13:56, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Anomaly

There seems to be an anomaly with my global account. In particular, it seems someone is using my username on the Malayalam Wiktionary, and copied and translated two of my edits from the English Wiktionary to the Malayalam one. [2] It used to tell me that that account was unattached, but now that I've visited the links, it's attached, but I certainly did not make those edits to the Malayalam Wiktionary. Does anyone know what happened? — Internoob (Wikt. | Talk | Cont.) 03:00, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Imported edits, the entry had been imported from another wiki, so the edits in fact are Yours but You just made them somewhere else, nothing to worry about, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 15:52, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Special:MergeAccount

I posted this on Talk:Steward requests/SUL requests, but anyway. I'm trying to get my account unified across a whole bunch of projects that had accounts created in 06/07 which haven't edited. I was mucking around with Special:MergeAccount and typed "password" into the password field. It actually unified accounts. I then tried "sonia" and got another two. So now I have unified five accounts without renaming them. (mediawiki, plus four languages I can't read.) Am I in trouble? {{Sonia|talk|simpleWP}} 09:30, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Hello, no You are not in trouble, You just usurped them kind of unfair, but since they had such stupid passwords it is almost merely their own fault, I saw the mediawiki one had 0 edits, so there it is no problem at all, were the others zh.wiki, fa.wiki, da.wiki, eu.wiki or bn.wiki, then I see no problem either because they had 0 content edits too. The only trouble You are in that I can see is that You have so many unattached accounts and some of them have edits (might be never solved ;( ). Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 15:11, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
That's good. Thanks. {{Sonia|talk|simpleWP}} 07:08, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Accounts renamed across all wikis.. now what?

Hi folks, I got Martyx usurped on en:wiki and proceeded to rename my accounts (commons and metawiki) but how do I get my unified login renamed? Or do I simply use MergeAccount again? SUL [old] and [new] Martyx 13:19, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

For now it's not possible to rename a global account together with its local accounts. You could request the local ones to be renamed, but you'd have to do that at each project. Seeing as none of them have contributions I'd just leave it like this. --Erwin 17:15, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
Hi Erwin, sorry I was originally Xytram but have since changed all my accounts to Martyx (which is why Xytram has no edits globally). All my used accounts have been renamed but no longer unified. Should I just create a new SUL with MergeAccount for Martyx? Martyx 14:45, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Making edits on wikis where unification is not possible

I would like to make an edit on fr-wiki (French) but that is one of four projects (the others being Commons, "ro" and "tr") where accounts already exist. I tried to get the accounts usurped before (a few years ago), but was told it was not possible. Should I try again, or should I just create a separate account to make edits on fr-wiki? I'm unlikely to ever make many edits on fr-wiki - it will be mainly fixing interwikis and adding pictures I've taken in France. Carcharoth 08:41, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Should I go ahead and create a separate account? Carcharoth 03:04, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

How did I make an account?

I made an account on Wikipedia. I noticed special page. So, I went to Meta. And it made me an account? Explain please? AboundingHinata 15:43, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

The account you created on Wikipedia is a so-called global one. That means that you can use it on pretty much any Wikimedia project as a local account will be created automatically. --Erwin 15:55, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Unified user page, unified talk page, unified watchlist

I've read over this talk page and the associated help page but have been unable to determine whether there are any plans to add a unified user/talk page to the unified login system. Although I only have a few active accounts (mainly I just use the Wikipedia one), it would still be really nice (and I imagine immensely helpful for some people--I see some are active on over 20 sister projects) if there were some sort of unified user page and talk page. So: are there plans to implement a unified user/talk/watchlist? I would fully support them if there were. Rezecib 20:19, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Rename

I need to rename my account? How do I do this? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Certero1 (talk • contribs) --dferg ☎ talk 18:42, 15 September 2010 (UTC).

Only users in the "bureaucrat" usergroup can do that. Please contact one of them (type in the searchbox Special:ListUsers/bureaucrat) and ask one of them to rename your account. If the project where where do you want your account renamed does not have bureaucrats please ask a steward at Steward requests/Username changes. Should you have further questions please feel free to ask again. Best regards, --dferg ☎ talk 18:50, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
