How to add a page with predefined sections
[edit]I'm running my first wiki and I was wondering if there is a way to have a 'create a page' form like on http://www.wikihow.com They have input boxes for different sections and tick boxes to add optional sections. I want to use this to make sure my users keep to standard formatting and styles on the pages. Thanks a lot!
Question about adding pages
[edit]Not sure if this is where one should post questions. In seeing the statement,
"another way is to perform a search (as you should have done before) with the Go button and coming up with nothing, pressing "create the article".
I have installed wikimedia and do not see this feature after a search on my site. I have looked around here and have not seen the feature as one that is a configuration setting. I have 1.3.3 installed.
- Make a page like w:MediaWiki:Nogomatch.--Patrick 20:34, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)
How to add that page?
[edit]Thank you for the quick reply! I have tried to create the page, but it actually returns the code. Is ther further documentation on how to add the type of page you are referring to? Thank you.
- Strange, [1] (if that is the wiki) gives contents, but the pages linked to are empty, looks like some configuration problem; I am afraid I can not help with that.--Patrick 19:48, 25 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Uh-Oh... I dropped records in the table because I was trying to figure out the Creating Category process... The pages were probably all wiped out then. Is there a SQL statement available to get it back to default, or should I start from scratch?
Whoever is in charge of this site now, can you please list where to find all of the Glider Gossip data that WAS listed on this site.....there is an enormous amount of information that was posted on the original site and some members would like to have this information available to associate issues regarding the health of the Glider.
APPRECIATE YOUR HELP! thank-you,

[edit]Sorry, but the link to Spanish language isn't valid. That is not spanish (may be 'portugues')
NoFind NoGoMatch
[edit]I too am curious about this nogomatch page.
My users really want an easier way to create a new page - and even though I am placing a "create new article" link, I would like to have an option to create the article if the search yields no results.
I am confident that I will figure it out eventually. And if I do, then I will post it. But it would be nice to have something already posted so I can roll-out my proposed knowledge base more quickly.
Ok here's how to do it!
[edit]NOTE:You will need to be logged in with Sysop privileges
First you need to go to the "special pages" link. Then click on "All system messages". Find and click on "nogomatch". click on "Edit this page". now the magic happens! replace the existing text with the following:
<span style="font-size: 135%; font-weight: bold; margin-left: .6em">No page with that title exists</span> <span style="display: block; margin: 1.5em 2em"> You can <b><a href="$1" class="new">create an article with this title</a></b> <span style="display:block; font-size: 89%; margin-left:.2em">Please search Wikipedia before creating an article to avoid duplicating an existing one, which may have a different name or spelling.</span> </span>
Save and that's it!
NOTE:if you try to preview or just view this page by itself it will not look right. After saving try searching for something random. you will get the "No page with the title exists - you can create an article with this title" text and link! hooray!
It would be nice if the above info was a little easier to find.
dumb it down
[edit]The only people reading this information for content will be new users. Therefore, the language used must reflect that. Currently, the language used does not reflect that. If I can figure out how to dumb down the intro of this MetaPage, I will. Otherwise, I hope one of you can do it. Kingturtle 17:17, 29 May 2005 (UTC)
- A lot of the help pages on Wikicities are much shorter and simpler versions of the pages here, so Wikicities:Help:New page might be a useful place to start if you want to "dumb down" this one. The Wikicities help pages aim to give a very quick intro to a topic, with a link to Meta for anyone needing to know how to add parameterized templates to image captions. :) Angela 17:26, 29 May 2005 (UTC)
Minor Content Reorg
[edit]- I'm going to be bold a make a few trivial edit to simplify the top part of the page. But I think the right approach is.
- put the simple explanation first
- add more detail below
- let the user stop when they've read enough.
- Reorging the lead paragraph was less than trivial. Some material got moved down, some deleted. I also added info about
- sandbox and
- user sub-page usage for drafts and
- template testing from user sub-pages.
- I'm reluctant to make these edits here (meta) because of their high visibility. If there are comments, please address here (or on my en:User_talk:LarryLACa user page if this is really off base). -- LarryLACa 02:21, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
- I revisited the "Create through URL" section after Patric's revert (which was correct. I came back to fix it myself, but it was already fixed. Thank's Patrick. I eliminated the term 'regular page' since the sense of regular was not apparent.
- I moved general wisdom from "using links" to General principles, re: is this the right name? Under General principles I expanded name considerations to avoid overlap and breaking links.
- I moved the 'not-really-broken' thought to "using links" with the other new page link rational.
- I think this reorg puts common content together and makes the whole flow simpler. It start's with a short intro, followed by general principals, 2 methods of creating new pages, then assorted related matter -- LarryLACa 00:43, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
What about Wikipedia's new page feature?
[edit]This page at Wikipedia has an input box at the top that allows people to type in the name of a new page and then jump to it for editing. However, I cannot get the code to work on the wiki that I set up. What special has to happen to get the wiki to parse the code and create the new page? I think that it's a nice feature, especially for people who aren't as familiar with editing wikis as others may be.

TOC problem on Wikipedia mirror since Dec 19
[edit]This page currently looks strange on Wikipedia at least since around December 19 when the last synchronization with this page seem to have been made. In IE and Opera, there's this HUGE gap between the paragraph before the "Create page" text box due to the right TOC not reflowing text properly. -- 213.115.192.29 08:16, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
Input Box / Create Article for Rumorpedia.org
[edit]I just installed my own Wiki and I am trying to get the create article box below but it doesn't work on my wiki :
Can someone tell me how to make it work on Rumorpedia please? Thanks.
Also how do I get the anti-spam thing?
Modify the starting new page
[edit]I would like to say I am glad this discussion part is here as I found it very useful.
Now for the question.
Is there a way that this page could be modified to not only include a for the new page but also have it include like a dropdown menu or a input box for the category names that have been created already. I am real new to this wiki thing as I just got it. and it took me all night to get the starting new page going lol but that was before I seen the discussion. The dropdown menu would be real nice.
I hope that someone can help me on that. Plus I think a lot would like that
Fixed width
[edit]Reduced width on the box to 60 because I had to scroll all the way down to see it on my browser.
a new page
[edit]- I still haven't found any answer to my question how to create a new page in my wiki. I've read the "starting a new page" article through and through, and all I can say is - it seems that someone is pulling a reader's leg.
"To start a new page, you can click a link to the new page."
- I can't see any links to the new page, nor any button saying "start a new page" or "start an article" and I'm getting quite desperate - could anyone please englighten me on this?
Changing the default edit box.
[edit]Two questions:
How can I change the contents of the default edit textarea - the one that is available when editing a new page?
AFAIgather, 'preloading' works on a per-link basis; I want to be able to use a custom template for all new edits, accesible from the 'EDIT' link on the page top.
Related to this (which might make things easier for me in the future) how does one figure out the sequence of pages linking to each other?
I want to find the page (parent) that's calling the page actually displaying the edit textarea. I suppose the same parent page will also be calling the footer of that page along with the Newarticletext page.
I can't seem to figure this out. Please help! -203.193.165.130 10:44, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
I just installed, and "hacked".
First, from the left-hand menu, I saw "main page", and I right-clicked and said to save the URL.
It was http://localhost/mywikipedia/index.php/Main_Page
So NOW, from example, I know how a page is linked.
From reading the help, you can create a link to a page that doesn't exist, to create a new page.
I wanted to have my OWN main page, while preserving the contents of the old one, so I went into edit mode on the main page, and set up a link using (left square bracket) http://localhost/mywikipedia/index.php/Old_Main_Page Old Main Page(right square bracket) (Someone please reply how to escape chars so you can put special chars in, or I will - being 5 mins into an installation - find it myself as I read documentation).
Pardon me for being so elementary: but a link consists of left square bracket, the url beginning with http://localhost etc, then if there are spaces in the url be sure to use the percent20 notation, because the first space in brackets begins the description of the url.
So, now when I view my changed main page, there is a new link to old main page, and I can for example:
1. go to main page; 2. edit it 3. select all/copy 4. go back to view mode 5. select old main page 6. go to edit mode 7. paste the original main page into it.
I know this is a hack, I said it was haha. There may even be a "copy page" function.
But I just wanted to pass on what worked for me with enough detail for someone to create a new page and edit it.
New Page Problem
[edit]I am trying unsuccessfully to add a new page to my wiki, by various means, including searching for the title I want to create. For example, if I search for "test", it says There is no page titled "test", but there is a "create this page" link. When I click the link, a window appears asking me to save the index.php file. If I save it on my local disk (default) then nothing happens. AIf I save it on the network drive where the wiki resides, it says that the file is in use, and I have to cancel. The same window comes up if I try to modify the URL to have the new title name instead of the main page.
Has this been seen before? Is it because the wiki was installed improperly for a network?

The button on the input box says "Go (try title)", but the text says,: 'Clicking the "Create page" button'.
I've not been able to fix this myself as I can't identify the appriopriate template. Richard Taylor 17:09, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yep, this really needs attention. Quite a few wikipedia editors are getting stuck on this one, and I can't follow the mess of {{H:h}} templates. BigNate37 22:20, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

There was a reference on this page as well, about searching for a non-existent title and it having a "Create article" button, which I've changed in this diff. Confusing Manifestation 02:45, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Terming child labour in India
[edit]Terming child labour in India as a "serious" problem, the country's newest Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi has said the delay in enacting and enforcing a ban on all its forms is akin to "destroying childhood" as our "children cannot remain trapped in workplaces".
But in the same breath he sounded optimistic that the scourge would become history during his lifetime and the key, he said, was "quality education".
In a detailed interview with IANS, the 60-year-old Satyarthi and Smt Dr Poojitha Srivatsav from Her extensive study from UNA shared his thoughts on the bane of child labor that confronts India. the Number count start decreasing as of now in India nothing much
"One can't say for sure how many children work as labourers, but there is a general consensus that there are about five million trapped in this unlawful activity," " Quality education has a direct link with substantial economic growth. An educated workforce and growth require good quality education," said Satyar This awareness has become part of the corporate social responsibility as well. They can't ignore the issue of child labour any more. It has emerged as a huge issue in talk and practice. The trend is positive," Satyarthi said.
Narrating his journey of struggle, he said: "My biggest achievement so far is that I made child labour an issue in India and globally. But it was never easy for me three decades ago when child labour was a non-issue and people wouldn't take me seriously."
"I would then be reminded of Mahatma Gandhi's words. He had once said, 'First they ignore, then they laugh, then they fight, and then they finally win'. So I won't claim that I have won the battle, the war is very big. But I am sure that in my lifetime, I will see the end of child labour," said Satyarthi, sitting in his modest office in south Delhi's Kalkaji neighbourhood.
"Generations to come will read in history books that there was an evil called child labour in India.
"It's not just my Beginning. In Satyarthi's opinion, the Nobel Peace Prize is a potent signal to all the child rights activists across the world that the award belongs to all of them.
On his experience sharing the honour with the Pakistani girl, Satyarthi said: "It was more like family bonding as a daughter and a father. She said I was like her aboo (father)."
With several interests in common to discuss, they agreed, in principle, "to push forward our common agenda, especially the education of girls".
Youngest among four children and the most pampered of all, Satyarthi was born to a family of modest means. And the seeds to fight child labour were sown very early on. It was all a moment of inspiration for five-year-old Satyarthi when he saw a child his age working as a cobbler outside his school. The sharp contrast stuck with him.
With plenty of questions simmering in his young brain, Satyarthi approached his elders to explain the disparity he observed.
"For a five-year-old, nothing to go with
