Feedback about report

[edit]

Hi Pgallert,

Thanks for submitting this report!

You indicated that the deadline for the report was tight. That's helpful feedback. We want the turnaround to be quick enough to make sure it gets done while the event is still fresh in participants' minds. However, we obviously also want to allow enough time so that people can provide meaningful outcomes. Would you be willing to comment on what amount of time you would perceive as appropriate for these goals? We'd welcome your input.

Thank you for linking to your slides, abstract and paper. As you may remember from our conversation at Wikimania 2015 in Mexico City, this is a topic that I'm personally very interested in and I'm looking forward to reviewing these materials in greater depth.

Before we can approve this report, there are a couple of things we still need:

  • Receipt for conference registration fee - you can email this to participation (_AT_) wikimedia {{.}} org.
  • Outcome: Per our reporting guidelines, the goal of the outcome requirement is to "share the benefits of your participation more widely with the community." The idea here is that you might magnify the impact of your attendance, both in terms of what you learned and what you presented. Follow-up lectures at Namibia University could be an acceptable way to make up this happen, as would providing support to the University of Oslo in conducting outreach to the Saami people. However, we need you to provide confirmation that his has happened, along with some more precise description of what was done so that it's documented clearly in your report. Alternatively, some of the usual routes for meeting the outcome requirement include publishing a blog post or creating/improving a learning pattern providing basic guidelines and links to resources. As far as I can tell, there don't appear to be any learning patterns in your subject area at present.

Best regards,

Hi Marti, and sorry for my late coming back here. I was relying on the cross-wiki notification system but it either didn't work in this case, or I must have overlooked that particular notice.
  • I have mailed a (sort of) receipt, hope this is sufficient.
  • Regarding the report deadline: I need another day or two to get home to Namibia, then I need two days to rejoin with the kids. Then I invariably have a mountain of urgent things at work, and then the two weeks are almost over. Usually only about 2-3 weeks after my travel do I have the leisure and the time to contact conference attendees, work through open issues, prepare a press statement, and such things... but that is probably just me.
  • Outcome: The workshop with the Saami still needs some time, as I have to find the funds for that. What is definitely happening is an editathon for indigenous languages. This is a pre-conference workshop for the ICCCS 2016 in Windhoek. Do you think this would be an acceptable outcome?
Thanks and best regards, Pgallert (talk) 12:18, 10 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
I have added another outcome as requested by email. I als have made another suggestion on how to spend remaining funds. In order to keep the financial info at one place, please see Grants talk:PEG/Pgallert/Indigenous knowledge for Wikipedia workshop/Report.
