[edit]Dear Oetterer,
Thank you for submitting this report. Before we review this report, we'd like to ask you to revise it to better meet the intended goals of the reporting process. You can see in our our reporting guidelines that the intent of reporting is to prompt you to "share the benefits of your participation more widely with the community." Though you have done a good job of indicating in both your report and your blog post how much you enjoyed this event, and how much pleasure you find in the acceptance, camaraderie and good will of the shared community it affords you, it is not as clear how your participation in the event was a benefit to the Wikimedia movement. Please go back and re-read the selection criteria for this program to get a clear picture of the type of benefit we are seeking to fund in this program, and use that to guide your revisions to your report.
Here are a couple of ways participants in this program generally report that you might like to adopt:
- Tell us how many people attended your talks, what difference you think it made for them to attend (in terms of benefit to the Wikimedia projects/communities) and whether and how you will follow up with them after the event.
- Tell us about new connections you made via networking at this event and how those connections will either further your work for the Wikimedia movement, or further their work for the Wikimedia movement.
- Provide links that give report readers access to the material you presented at the conference (though you have provided links, the pages you've linked to provide very little information about the content of your presentation).
Additionally, your outcome should seek to further extend the benefit of your participation beyond the conference. At present, your blog post is very focused on presenting a detailed picture of how you traveled, where you stayed, where you ate, whom you rode with, etc. This is a wonderful expression of how meaningful this event was for you personally, but it doesn't align with the reporting requirement, which is intended to extend meaningful learning related to the event that is of benefit to the Wikimedia movement, as a whole. For example: You might wish to create a learning pattern or a new blog post that communicates some of the Wikimedia-related content you shared at the event, or that you learned at the event. You might wish to link to something that you and other participants co-created at the event that is of benefit to the Wikimedia movement. You might wish to link to a Wikimedia-related project that you are working on as a result of participating at the event.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this request. You can ping us at participationwikimedia · org when you have revised your report.
