Support

[edit]

Having myself attended its first three editions, once as a friend of the organizers and then twice specifically to promote Wikimedia, among the first group to do it there, I don't think the Campus Party particularly stands out as an event Wikimedia should focus its efforts on. However, since Kul and Jessie are coming and so already putting a lot of energy into this, Jonas is likely the best Wikimedian we could have over there. Plus, I wholeheartedly support his proposal to come to the university meet students and teachers to talk about Wikimedia. --Solstag 05:38, 10 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Measurable outcomes

[edit]

Jonas, I miss some measurable outcomes in your proposal. Right now you only list types of activities and say you will do your best. Setting objective goals will help you plan ahead, and helps others understand that you have a solid grasp of what you're asking the grant for. --Solstag 05:38, 10 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I would second Solstag. I think the entire proposal looks very interesting, but I would like to have an indication how you would define "success" with regards to your mission. In other works. quoting from the application form: "What will be accomplished if your participation is successful?" --Johannes Rohr (WMDE) 11:54, 12 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the tips! I am editing, and clearing this points; Jonas AGX 02:41, 14 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Jonas. Still, I feel you've just made more verbose what you had already stated. Can you be more specific? Exactly how many encounters are you planning and where? How many people do you expect to attend each of them? What proportion of the attendees do you expect to actually get involved? What kind of committment do you want, and are prepared to support, from them? --Solstag 01:13, 15 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
It's true, thinking again, my request had/have(?) many 'corners'. Now, I added my expectative for events, and I improved my targets. How it looks? Jonas AGX 19:23, 16 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
It does look better. Now we can press you to get all those people there! hahaha :)
But it looks like you gave up on the Editathon, why?
Also, if you wanna get 200 people at the campus party and 30 at USP, you better have a pretty good plan.
How many days will you spend at Campus Party? How many people a day makes for 200 total? How do you plan to interact with them?
Classes at USP only start on the 27th of February[1], so undergrads are not going to be around. Do you expect 30 professors and grad students to come? Who would they be, and who is helping you contact people at USP? --Solstag 05:35, 18 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Editathon: Nope, I still working on this idea, but it's my first, then, I am not sure how to measure its impact/success. I always ask myself: "What we want first:' good articles' or 'good editors'?". To me, it is not clear to Wikipedia as a whole. Jonas AGX 20:56, 18 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
So why did you remove all mention of it from the proposal? --Solstag 00:41, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Good plan: I am the 'Professor Xavier', buuuut I have hair. X-man
That it a very good plan to fight evil mutants, not sure if so good to gather an audience. What I meant was, please develop a plan in the proposal. Also, I left some questions above and they were not rhetorical. You don't need to reply here, just include the answers in the proposal. --Solstag 00:41, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I added it in the proposal. Sorry, I forgot to reinclude the plans on Editahon. Now I need to prepare some things to São Paulo. Jonas AGX 19:39, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Audience at USP: Tom said would introduce me to people from USP, but I still waiting (:P), may you help us to organize something? Jonas AGX 20:56, 18 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I am planning to help a little, but mostly in promoting the meeting by sending messages to a few faculty and students mailing lists. I'm pretty busy right now. --Solstag 00:41, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Perfeito, that's exactly what I am looking for. Jonas AGX 19:39, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Just to make it clear, I'm continuing the discussion above to help Jonas plan ahead, but I no longer see anything keeping this grant from being approved as soon as possible. --Solstag 05:35, 18 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Currency

[edit]

Why budget this proposal in dollars? Local currency would be easier to adapt in case changes are needed, and easier to follow up and evaluate the feasibility of the request. --Solstag 05:43, 10 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I agree, but the request template told me to estimate in dollars :P I'll include this proposal in R$ too; Jonas AGX 02:41, 14 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
We'll take a look at the request form and see if we can improve it to avoid confusion for future applicants. Wolliff 23:19, 17 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Wolliff! --Solstag 05:35, 18 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Provide details on your travel budget, please

[edit]

When requesting funds for travel, please provide as much detail as possible so that we can properly evaluate your request. Please at least provide the arrival and departure cities and your means of travel. Thanks! Wolliff 16:37, 12 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Winifred, the detail added is correct? I defined my trip, budget and some measurable outcomes, what do you think? Jonas AGX 04:14, 14 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Jonas. In my opinion, this information is adequate for us to evaluate your request! Wolliff 23:20, 17 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Perfecto, I am looking forward to this. Thank you (again) Winifred. Jonas AGX 21:06, 18 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
