missing outcome
[edit]Hello Jackiekoerner, thank you for submitting your report. However, it appears that it is missing at least one outcome. WMF is requesting for attendees to share something that results from their participation at the conference with the Wikimedia movement after the conference has ended; or share something that was created/started while at Wikimania, but has benefits to the movement after the conference ended.
Please edit your report to meet the request, or let me know if I have missed any outcome/s included in your blogs or report. -- Best, JTud (WMF), Grants Administrator (talk) 23:02, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Jtud (WMF), Thank you for reaching out about my outcomes. I am glad you asked. This allows me to express my concern about the WMF's preference toward quantifiable metrics. I appreciate you all need to report the effectiveness of support; this method, however, ignores the other outcomes that are not measurable. One cannot quantify learning, understanding, connection or communication.
- I do encourage the WMF to begin looking beyond quantifiable measures. There is much to this world that cannot be depicted in numbers. From conversation, I know this is a frustration for organizers, grant recipients and active contributors. Please move beyond valuing the numbers higher than articulated more meta contributions. It will harbor true learning and not force people to create arbitrary measures that might not be as meaningful for their project.
- I'll clarify my achievements while at Wikimania here hoping this helps: I did deliver one presentation during Learning Days at Wikimania about survey design for community organizers. I provided my contact information after my presentation to offer research design support for people in the broader community. I delivered one lightning talk. I improved my skills as a community organizer. I connected with others about the work they are doing and the work I am doing. All of this is in my blog posts. Are these not significant outcomes?
- Please know this critique is sent in good faith. I know text cannot deliver intonation or inflection. I hope you hear it in the caring and concerned tone with which it is being delivered. This movement means the world to me. I want to see it grow and mature to support the whole community and their strengths. Best, Jackiekoerner (talk) 16:36, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
