Request partially funded

[edit]

Dear Amqui,

Thank you for submitting this request. We love the idea of a Wikimedia booth at the Creative Commons Summit 2017. However, because this is a relatively passive level of participation, we are limiting funding to one person. All things equal, our preference is to fund the person who does not require airfare in order to attend. However, we recognize that operating a booth requires both sufficient knowledge and experience with the Wikimedia movement and a skill for building rapport with strangers, so if you prefer to identify the person in your group best suited for this work, we are happy to cover airfare for that person.

We will provide you with swag to distribute to the event, but our precedent for this type of engagement is a more modest package of swag. We can send you the Plath package, and ideally you will provide us with an address that is local to the event, since it otherwise may not arrive to you in time.

Please review the next steps for your grant as described in "How the program works". Note that your post-event report must provide a link to an outcome from your participation. To meet this requirement, you must start planning your outcome now so you are prepared to submit it as part of your report, which is due 14 days after the event. An outcome does not include the materials you prepare to present at the event (though we’d like you to link to those, too), but something that is created during or after the event because of your participation, such as a link to something new that was co-created by you and your fellow participants at the event, a blog post you wrote to share your experience with others after the event, or a learning pattern to teach others something you've learned at the event.

Our Grants Administrator will be in touch with you about your grant. Thank you for work on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation.

@Mjohnson (WMF): Thank you very much for your time, but we have decided that we will not go forward with this event. We agree with your analysis that the type of engagement is only passive and have come to the conclusion that our efforts at this time will be better employed at other priorities such as the upcoming Wikimania. Thank you very much again, Amqui (talk) 20:20, 13 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for letting us know, Amqui!
