[edit]Hello Neevew, thank you for submitting this Rapid Grant request. It’s exciting to see that you’re running an Art and Feminism event at your community. We reviewed your proposal and we have the following question:
- You mentioned that several experienced Wikipedians will be supporting you during your event. Could you add their usernames on the proposal page?
Thank you again for your contribution to Wikimedia Movement. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 06:37, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
Hello DSaroyan (WMF), Sure! I added the editor usernames under the question "Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?" Thanks.
- Hello Neevew, thanks for providing the usernames we requested. I am concerned that these individuals do not have sufficient experience with editing English Wikipedia and may not be able to support participants who are new to editing at your event. One of the named editors (User:Mquad) has not edited English Wikipedia at all, for instance, and others have around 50 edits or fewer. Can you provide some information about the previous events these organizers have run, and if they have background or expertise in other areas that may be helpful for the event? Would it be possible to find support from more experienced editors from the Art+Feminism or your local community? I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 00:16, 27 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hi JethroBT (WMF) Thanks for your question. The organizers are a group of librarians, some of whom have been involved in multiple events over the years (but often helping others and not editing themselves). Leading up to the event, we are working on our own wiki practice through the weekly meet up, to brush up on skills in preparation for the editathon. However, we'd be happy to seek a local wikipedian for additional support at the event. Neevew
- @Neevew: Thanks for this context and for planning to seek out a local Wikipedian for support. I very much understand that the important work of mentoring and providing support to new editors does not always translate into high edit counts. If you're not able to find a Wikipedian to provide additional support, this is not a problem. I'm also glad to hear that you have some weekly meetups scheduled to practice between now and the event itself. I have approved your edit-a-thon for funding. Thanks very much for your proposal!
