Grants talk:Project/Rapid/THL Open GLAM
Add topicDear Applicants,
Greetings!
- You are planning to conduct two previous sessions, will you talk about the licenses required in the Wikimedia ecosystem? We hope that all the participants attending these sessions are well aware of GLAM.
The two sessions we are conducting is to familiarise everyone with identifying GLAM collections on websites / Flickr and adding appropriate licenses, categories, descriptions. A larger section of our community (artists, heritage and culture enthusiasts) is unfamiliar with uploading process on Wiki Commons and before hosting the week-long uploading process, we want to help them understand this and clarify any questions they might have.
- A question regarding food coupons, If the sessions will be organised online how and why would you want to provide them with food coupons? Is this complimentary to encourage participation?
Our past experience with participating in, and hosting in-person and online editathons has led us to understand that snacks / food is appreciated, and it is a token of gratitude for everyone's time in attending the learning sessions. If you have any suggestions regarding this, we are happy to modify / are flexible on this. It is nice, but not necessary, so we look forward to your input on this.
- The application mentions 20 participants. How many teams will be there? How are you planning on forming teams among the participants? We are trying to understand this as you have mentioned a team prize of Rs. 10,000.
Again, based on our experience, we have not had more than 20-25 participants. So it will be about 2-3 people in each team. In case we get more participants we will make teams of 3-4 people, but number of teams will remain 10.
- Will you be able to encourage 5 or more participants to participate in this event? You can send community notifications using the mailing lists, and social media channels to encourage more participation.
The Heritage Lab Instagram. Yes, and additionally we will also be reaching out to History and Heritage Societies in Universities and conduct outreach through other institutional partners.
- Are you planning to request various museum authorities to actively communicate about this event within their circles to increase participation and bring contextual expertise?
As mentioned, museum-partnerships are very valuable for this project and we will additionally be hosting video interviews with GLAM institutions either individually or as a panel discussion to highlight GLAM-Wiki approaches, success stories, methodologies etc. for the larger museum community.
- You have mentioned your target as English Wikipedia. Many other Indic Wikipedia also has editors who can participate. Please outline your plans if any for engaging Indian Language communities.
Our main target is Commons. We have mentioned English Wiki as that would be part of our training, but we will surely incorporate your suggestions and encourage illustration on other Wikis too.
- After conducting these events is there any idea to make others aware of the uploaded photos? This will immensely help other editors and they will be able to use uploaded photos in their wiki articles.
We love your suggestion for making other Wiki communities aware about the results of the uploads. We will be happy to share a category link to different community groups to encourage usage.

Request for extension
[edit]Hello. Hope you're doing well. We've completed the first part of the scheduled events in our grant. The edit-a-thon was quite a success with over 1000+ image uploads. All the images that were uploaded are put together in categories which are listed in this article. As you already are aware, we'll be working on video creation based on the images uploaded, in the second part of our grant. Since we have numerous images at our disposal now, it will take time for us to go through them and see on which ones we want to base our video resources. This is why we would like to request the grants committee for an extension of the due date of our grant. We intend to complete this activity and get our videos ready by 30th June 2022. The report would then be submitted in the subsequent month of July. Please take this in your kind consideration and provide us permission for the same. Regards.
