Hello Psalmbusy, thanks for submitting your first Rapid Grant. We are excited to learn about the content campaign and proposed activities. I have reviewed your application and have some questions that I’d like you to respond to:

  • You have no edits made on any Wikimedia projects. You mentioned that this is because you have been editing anonymously for five years. Could you please share some examples of articles you created or edited with your IP address? We need to make sure that you have some experience in working with Wikimedia projects before we can move forward with this grant request.
  • We now require all grantees to announce their projects and receive the Wikimedia community feedback in advance. Could you please announce this project and grant on the relevant community pages on the target wikis? Community notification may be most appropriate on a village pump, talk page, or mailing list. Please paste a link into the proposal page to where the relevant communities have been notified of this proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.
  • Your main target group for this project will be the content creators' community from Nigeria. Does this target community have any experience in Wikimedia projects? If it doesn’t, how will they produce content about what they like about Wikipedia and why should people contribute?
  • Additionally, what will be the main benefit of these videos? Who will be interested in viewing these videos?
  • Do you plan to run any pre- or post-campaign activities to train participants on Wikimedia projects?
  • Given the campaign scope, we think that the prize budget is high. Please reduce it to 400 USD and update your total budget.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 11:48, 28 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi DSaroyan (WMF) and thank you for the questions, see my answers below:
  • Yes, I have been editing Wikipedia anonymously for about five years and have full grasp of how it works. Though I haven't created any new articles from start yet as my edits are mainly minor which focused on fixing typos, fixing lead section, adding additional ref, hyperlinks and making an article non-orphaned; I have also made significantly contributions to articles like Kehinde Bankole, Mayowa Oluyeba, Darey and so many more that I cant even recollect and now that I have an account you will begin to see all my contributions as you can see now and will also be creating new articles.
  • I have notified the community on Wikimedia Nigeria talkpage here.
  • Yes, main target is content creators from Nigeria using social media. Almost all the content creators know and uses Wikipedia very well, as a content creator; that is where they got lot of their resources from but only very few of them know how to contribute to Wikipedia. So the project is centered on them making video contents on what they like about Wikipedia when they use it for their contents and also using the opportunity to learn how to contribute to Wikipedia.
  • The videos will be creative contents on the beauty of Wikipedia, so lot of Nigerians will be interested in viewing them as it brings Wikipedia awareness to them in a subtle and creative format and a lot of this content creators have large social media followership also it will also allow more people top learn about Wikipedia even more./
  • Yes, participants who express willingness to learn about Wikimedia project will be incorporated into the Wikimedia Nigeria community learning platform and will also share breakdown tips during the contest on simple ways to contribute to Wikipedia as the project.
  • Alright, i have reduced the prize to 400 USD and the total budget has been updated.

Thank you once again. Psalmbusy (talk) 16:45, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Psalmbusy, thanks for responding to our questions. We have some additional questions:

  • Because the work primarily focuses on video content, we would like to know what experience you and your team have with preparing and uploading videos?
  • We would also like to learn more about integrating content into other Wikimedia projects. What are your goals around integrating content into Wikipedia articles, not just uploading content to Commons?
  • How will you measure views of video content?

Hi @DSaroyan (WMF), thank you for the additional questions; here are my responses below:
  • I am familiar with uploading videos to Wikimedia commons using Video2commons as I have attended some virtual workshops in Nigeria prior where this was taught and putting the necessary licenses and descriptions.
  • Even though the project is primarily a promotional project centered on creating video awareness about Wikipedia in Nigeria through the use of content creators. The videos will also be integrated into corresponding Wikipedia articles of some of the content creators with Wikipedia articles and Wikidata.
  • The views of the video content will be measured through the normal Instagram view statistics.

Thanks and let me know if you have any more questions. Psalmbusy (talk) 13:27, 4 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
