Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Online Hausa Wikipedia awareness
Add topicComments from WMF
[edit]Hello Anasskoko, thanks for submitting this Rapid Grant request. It’s great to see that you are planning to carry out some promotional activities to increase the awareness of Hausa Wikipedia. I have reviewed your proposal and have some questions and comments that I would like you to address:
- Since you and other leaders involved in this project are from the Hausa Wikimedians User Group, please add the user group name to the probox, so that this request can be credited to the user group. Also, please add a secondary contact who will co-sign the agreement if this grant is approved.
- In your detailed budget, #1, #2, and #3 items are not clear. Particularly, it is not clear what you meant by “Digitizing”. Could you please provide more information about these items? Are any of these items intended to compensate for the people’s time?
- Will you organize any offline activities in terms of this grant? How many participants do you expect to have during the video production process?
- You have budgeted Internet expenses for five facilitators, while you have only mentioned three facilitators in the Resources (Q2) section. Please reduce the internet costs to meet the number of the facilitators.
- Moreover, why have you included internet and food costs for five days?
- How do you plan to deliver food and snacks to online meeting participants?
- Please also provide more details about what videos, tutorials, images, and printed materials you plan to create. The information provided in the proposal is very general and vague, we need more details in order to better understand your application.
- One of your promotional plan goals is “To open an online platform to discuss and explain the basics of Hausa Wikipedia”. Could you please share with us what kind of platform you meant?
- Are you planning to upload the created materials to Wikimedia Commons? Have you considered creating on-wiki tutorials before making PDF leaflets?
- Please revise the third target of the Impact section. I think that 15 pageviews per day (150 throughout the campaign) are really low and you can reach this number with your organizing team only without any promotion. How many pageviews does the Hausa Wikipedia currently have?
Looking forward to hearing from you! Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 13:33, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
Answers, clarification and corrections
[edit]Hello, DSaroyan (WMF), thank you for reviewing my proposal, here are the answers to your questions and the corrections which I made.
Q1--- I have added the name of the user Group (Hausa Wikimedian User Group) in the probox, I also provide a secondry contact.
Q2--- What I mean by digitizing is creating of Videos, Images and PDF’s.
- Information about the items
- Videos: Five videos will be created, two among the five will undergoes a series of video coverage/shooting, with characters of Hausa Wikipedian editors speaking in their Native, making promotional campaign to draw the attention of Hausa community, it will be edited to include logos, contact address, phone number, social media handles and link address. While the other three videos will be a tutorials on how to know, become and edit Hausa Wikipedia.
- Images: These are graphical representation and notes in form of a photo for the campaign, which will under goes a process of graphics design.
- PDF’s: This is a bunch of notes and screen shot attach to various section in the PDF format, explaining how to edit Wikipedia in details, which will be shared online to reach various users for offline reading.
- Notes: I want a situation where by even if the online users did not contact us, then we have left them the best means that can guide them through.
- Yes it will compensate people’s time, to those that will make the shooting, editing, typing, and creating of the images using application softwares.
Q3--- Ye I will organize an offline activities of shooting two videos in a space of five days, either indoor or outdoor, depending on the situation.
- I expect to have four participants during the video production.
Q4--- The budgeted Internet expenses is for four facilitators, I made a mistake by writing three, so I have corrected it to four facilitators in the Resources section (Q2), each facillator will be given one social media to make the promotional campaign for five days, as I made mention of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp in the budget breakdown table under note description of number 6,
- the internet costs meet the number of the facilitators, 30,000 NG for four facilitators per day, then 30,000 x 5 days, making 150,000 NG, plus 40,000 for router, making a total of 190,000 NG in Nigerian currency, which is equivalent to 492 USD.
Q5--- Internet cost: I plan to carry out the promotional campaign in five days, we want the campaign to reach large number of online users, if the campaign is to take place in few days I think we will not reach large numbers, I think five days will be okay to make it done.
- Food cost: the food cost is also for five days, because the shooting will take us up to five days to get things done, and I plan to spend few hours out of their time (facilitators), so that they can attend to their daily activities.
Q6--- I don’t intend to deliver any food to online participants, I made a mistake in the notes description of number 6 under budget breakdown table, which I now corrected, the only feeding that left is a food and snacks for the facilitators during shooting production for five days, the shooting will take us five days to get it done.
Q7--- Detail information
- Videos: Five videos will be created, two among the five will undergoes a series of video coverage/shooting, with characters of Hausa Wikipedian editors speaking in their Native, making promotional campaign to draw the attention of Hausa community, it will be edited to include logos, contact address, phone number, social media handles and link address. While the other three videos will be a tutorials on how to know, become and edit Hausa Wikipedia.
- Images: These are graphical representation and notes in form of a photo for the campaign, which will under goes a series of graphics design production, the images will be in digital device format JPG.
- PDF’s: This is a bunch of notes and screen shot attach to various section in the PDF format, explaining how to edit Wikipedia in details, which will be shared online to reach various users for offline reading.
Q8--- I mean on Zoom meet up, I will create a flat-form on Zoom meet up, to meet with number of users we have gotten during the online awareness, to explain the basics of Hausa Wikipedia, and to meet experience editors from Hausa Wikipedia. I will also add them to our flat form on Whatsapp named Hausa Wikimedian User Group. Q9--- Yes I will upload all the media files used in the promotional campaign in Wikimedia Commons for further usage.
- Yes I have the Idea to create a brief tutorial on Hausa Wikipedia with a name WP:Tutorial (en)/WP:Koyo (ha), after I have gotten all media files in Commons, then I will link them to the pages with a full detail explanation on-Wiki on how to edit and become Hausa Wikipedian Editor, it will serve as a general guidelines on How to edit Hausa Wikipedia for Hausa community, and the the link can be shared
Q10--- Well, I have revise the third target of the Impact section, as of 9th March, 2020 – 14th July, 2020, we have the maximum of 38,000 page views per day, minimum of 18, 000 page views, the average will be around 25, 000 page views per day, so I have decided to turn in to 50,000 page views per day.
- Thank you once again for reviewing my proposal, I will be glad if you request any further clarification, Best regards.--AnasskokoTalk 09:26, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
Additional comments from WMF
[edit]Hello Anasskoko, thanks for your responses. I have reviewed them and have additional comments:
- You mentioned that internet costs are for four facilitators but budget item #6 still lists five facilitators. Please correct this.
- We cannot compensate for people's time engaged in the text editing and typing, please remove these costs from your budget. However, you can still request funds for video editing and graphic design expenses.
- Currently we do not fund any offline gatherings. Please avoid organizing any offline activities during the video shootings and modify these activities to exclude any offline meetings.
- It would be great if you list the creation of the tutorial as one of your project targets.
- When creating the promotional materials be sure to follow the Wikimedia Style Guidelines and share the content under CC licenses compatible with Wikimedia projects. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 12:20, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

- Sorry for not correcting the number in budget item #6, I was carried away, but now is done.

- Any offline activities gathering will be avoided during Video shooting, and any offline meeting will be excluded.
- I have include the creation tutorials as one of the project targets.
- I will make sure the promotional materials will follow the Wikimedia Style Guidelines, and the content will be shared under C C licenses compatible with Wikimedia projects. Best regards, --AnasskokoTalk 05:31, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Date extension
[edit]Hello, DSaroyan (WMF),
- I will like to inform that I need date extension, I want additional time, so that these project will be successful, I want to change the date from 15th August 2020 - 1st september, 2020 to starting;1st September, 2020, ending; 15th September 2020, this is due to the following reasons:
- I didn't receive the funds in time, as of 8 August, 2020. the fund is the major pillar that will cover all the activities, I and the facilitators are ready to carry out all that is required, but delay in receiving the funds persist.
- In August, the weather condition here in our area is not suitable for shooting and mobilization, almost all the days is raining, and there is poor network for internet connectivity due to rain, wind and atmospheric condition.
- Time is very important and one of the major key to our success, shifting the date will give us courage and planning time, if the date is not extended, it will make us to rush. looking forward to your response.
