Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Music Library Association/Wikipedia-edit-a-thon 2019
Add topicHello jonathanmanton thank you for your work on un(der)represented performers and composers who were born in St. Louis or have significant connections to the city. I apologize for the delay in response on this request. In reviewing your grant I had two questions:
1. You state in your short blurb that you will be pairing experienced wikimedians with novice ones. Does that mean you have 20 experienced wikimedians on hand? Can you share some of the usernames of experienced wikimedians who will be in attendance?
- We will have two experienced Wikipedians leading the session, both of whom are also professional librarians with extensive backgrounds in both instruction and metadata skills. Their usernames are ActionableIdeas and Akijas1. A number of other attendees do have some experience already with Wikipedia but not as much as the lead instructors.
2. I see in your budget you have allotted $300 for swag. Can you clarify what you plan to have for giveaways and if you plan to have something for all participants or if you're planning to give specific prizes for certain achievements during the editathon?
- We plan on giving small gifts to every participant, and then some additional prizes for accomplishments such as the most edits, most words added, most citations to high quality sources added etc. We will use about a third of the budget to cover the general giveaways that will include Wikpedia Globe Stickers, Project Buttons and other smaller swag items, and then the remaining money to purchase a few more expensive items for the prizes.
Please let me know your thoughts and we can proceed accordingly. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 06:19, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
Approval
[edit]Hello jonathanmanton, thank you for providing responses to my questions. I'm approving your request. I would really encourage you to have additional experienced Wikimedians at your edit-a-thon. 40 participants will be a lot for only two wikimedians if they need hands-on support. I'm looking forward to hearing how your event goes and reading about some of the underrepresented performers and composers of St Louis. Thank you again for the work you have done and will be doing to organize this event. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 03:21, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
