Cost Reduction by Afifa Afrin

Request not eligible

Hello Ibrahim Husain Meraj,

I received your message on my talkpage requesting my review of this proposal. Since the Travel and Participation Support (TPS) program closed, and travel grants were redirected to Rapid Grants, I am no longer the Program Officer who reviews these requests. Woubzena Jifar (WMF) is the person who reviews approves Rapid Grants.

That said, based on the Rapid Grants guidelines for travel grants, I do not believe this proposal is eligible for funding, because:

• your request is for an international flight, rather than for local or regional travel--which are now the exclusive focus of our travel awards, I believe (Woubzena can confirm this)
• you are not scheduled to present,
• you don't have an outreach activity plan that is focused on recruiting/engaging Wikimedians ** surveying the general audience at this conference does not meet this requirement, since the outcome is new knowledge about gender conflict from an audience of open source supporters. Although this is an awesome goal, it is not within the scope of our grants programs, which are all focused on improving Wikimedia projects.

Hi Marti, Thank you very much for your feedback. I understand your point that are based on guideline. To this point, I have made few amendments. As the moment I applied for this grant, the organizers could not share the concrete plan with me, I mentioned that is not decided yet. During application, I proposed them to make presentation on Challenges of recruiting new editor for Wikipedia in Bangladesh as an admin of Bangla Wikipedia. However, now they have came with their plan and offered me space on Unconference. So I will be presenting and discussing on the above mentioned topic. Again about the point about outreach, from my experience in Wikimedia movement in all these years, I observed the more noises we can make the more outreach we can have. As this is an international platform, and people believe in similar philosophy like us (Wikimedia movement), I am sure I can make an impact through my presentation and discussions. Again for the request of international flight, I have managed the other costs meanwhile. But without this grant, I may not be able to attend the conference. --Ibrahim Husain Meraj (talk) 03:46, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
