Hi Houss 2020, thanks so much for submitting this grant and for your efforts in organizing the WLE contest in Tunisia. I reviewed your grant application and have a few questions and requests:

  • We now require all grantees to announce their projects and receive the community feedback in advance. Could you please announce this project and grant on the relevant Tunisian community pages on the target wiki(s)? Community notification may be most appropriate on a village pump, talk page, or mailing list. Please paste a link into the proposal page to where the relevant communities have been notified of this proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.
  • Does this project have any connection with Wikimedia TN User Group? Are you requesting this grant on behalf of that user group?
  • Options to download and copy have been disabled on the Risk Assessment Tool file. Could you please share it with me, so that I could attach the file to our internal records?

Thanks again for your work and dedication! I look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 07:27, 18 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Houss 2020, thank you for sharing the grant proposal. Wikimedia Tunisia is not against non-Wikimedia Tunisia initiatives for the advancement of the wiki movement in Tunisia and recommends the allocation of grants to confirmed users to ensure the success of events in our country but, I would like to clarify some points:

  1. All the grants that Wikimedia Tunisia applies for must go through our fiscal sponsor CLibre, this decision was taken following an incident that caused a conflict in the team.
  2. We would be grateful if you could inform the board and the members of the user group before applying for the grants and not after to avoid any misunderstanding.
  3. Such an initiative must be supported by an experienced user to ensure the success of such an event.

You are very welcome if you would like to collaborate with Wikimedia Tunisia and to go through our fiscal sponsor.
Thank you!

Dear Afek91, thank you for your comments, I am so glad that the wikimedia TN members support our individual initiative, I would like to clarify some points
  1. My grant proposal is an individual grant as a wikimedia user
  2. the Community Resources of the Wikimedia Foundation require all grantees to announce their projects and receive the community feedback in advance, we are so happy that we hear from you
  3. for the experience, I learnt a lot from my last rapid grant Wikipedia 20 event, before submitting this rapid grant I read many reports about Wiki loves earth events around the world.Besides, I am an active member in many organizations in my city such as Tunisian Scouts and Junior Chamber International in which i ran a lot of activities and responsibilities as a board member.
Again I thank you and the Wikimedia Tunisia members for your support, and I hope accept me in your user group, and I hope we collaborate with you in future projects Houss 2020 (talk) 16:15, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Afek91: thanks so much for your comments.
  • I'm glad to hear that Wikimedia Tunisia is supporting independent initiatives.
  • Regarding your first point, do you or any community member have any particular concern about the use of funds for this grant request?
  • We currently require our grantees to notify the community when submitting a grant request or during the review process. However, it would be great if Houss 2020 could discuss this project with broader community in advance.
  • Did Wikimedia Tunisia or other community members you know express willingness to be the local organizers for the Wiki Loves Earth campaign? I'm asking this because no one is currently mentioned to be the local organizer from Tunisia on the Participating countries of WLE page.
  • Additionally, do you know any experienced users how would support Houss 2020 in organizing this campaign in Tunisia?
Hi @Houss 2020: thanks for your responses above, I have some additional questions based on Afek91's comments:
  • Did you discuss with the broader Tunisian community that you would like to be the local organizer for this campaign?
  • Do you have any experience in running similar campaigns? Or perhaps you have other experienced team members who will support you in running the project? If that's the case, could you share their usernames?
Looking forward to your response. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 11:26, 22 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Dear @DSaroyan (WMF): ,Thank you again for your comments. As you requested,I sent an email to Tunisian community to inform them about the grant and the event.I am a new user in Wikimedia community and I am learning from this experience. For the experience, I learnt a lot from my last rapid grant Wikipedia 20 event, before submitting this rapid grant I read many reports about Wiki loves earth events around the world.Besides, I am an active member in many organizations in my city such as Tunisian Scouts and Junior Chamber International in which i ran a lot of activities and responsibilities as a board member.Houss 2020 (talk) 16:23, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi Houss 2020, thanks for your reply. I'm glad to learn that your previous grant has been a huge learning opportunity for you, and I truly appreciate your willingness to run the WLE campaign in Tunisia this year! I'm also glad to get to know your previous and current experience in different nonprofits. In case of such campaigns, however, we request that you have at least one experienced person in your team, who will advise and support you throughout the project. Do you think you can reach out to Wikimedia Tunisia or the international team for support? Additionally, could you address Gikü's questions and requests below? Please let me know, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:04, 25 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi DSaroyan (WMF),Thank you again for your comments, It is great to discuss with you,Afek and Gikü.As you recommended,I request the help of the last organizers 1 2 of WLE in Tunisia and I sent an email for the international organizers of WLE. Houss 2020 (talk) 16:24, 26 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Houss 2020: you've asked me to endorse this grant request. Before I decide to do that, I have read it and I have several requests for clarifications. By no means I want to put a price tag on my endorsement – I sincerely hope I am raising valid matters and this discussion can improve the grant!

  1. Please add a bit of context on the past installments of WLE in Tunisia – links to their grant requests and/or reports, if possible or applicable.
  2. Please share the location of the list of protected areas of Tunisia.
  3. Can you please share details about the planned photo walks? The grant request lacks details on routes, timeline, and most important, the expected outcome: how many protected areas will you visit & document, and how many photos do you expect to be uploaded as a result of these walks?
    • A humble suggestion if I may: have you considered splitting the group of photographers so that you are able to cover more routes thus more protected areas?

Thank you! Gikü (talk) 17:01, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dear @Gikü: thank you for your comments:
  1. First of all about links of WLE in Tunisia 1 2 3
  2. the list of protected areas in the commons page of WLE Tunisia 2021
  3. The photo walks will be organised in areas with no photos in commons
First and the second one in the state of Kebili 6 areas will be photographed ( national parks of Jebil National Park , Important area for the conservation of birds in Tunisia Chott Djerid and Sebkhet Nouaïel and Douz Laâla and Snam and Ghidma AND Zones humides oasiennes de Kébili)
the third one and the fourth one the Dams of Tunisia
  4. I appreciate your suggestion, we will consider it in the project realization.
Again thank you for your your comments and I hope you help me orgniseing this event Houss 2020 (talk) 15:55, 26 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
