Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Art and Feminism Edit-a-thon
Add topicHello Setsile thank you for submitting this proposal. I have a few questions for you before we can move forward.
- Would you please answer the first question under activities on the number of editathons you're hoping to host? My understanding is that you're going to do one but I wanted to clarify.
- In #3 under activities, would you mind sharing user names for the experienced wikimedians who will be helping your editathon?
- It is great to see that you're partnering with a library to use their computers. I see that they also have a projector you can use but your budget shows $150 to hire one. Can you explain why you need to hire a projector if they have one already?
- I see that you're hoping to host 50 - 60 people but the library only has 20 computers. Are you hoping to have people share computers? It sounds like it might be too many people for the space you have.
- The budget seems heavy on equipment rental and purchase. Can you give a sense of where the you got the estimates for the budget line items? You can provide links to where you're going to rent from if that's helpful.
Looking forward to learning the answers to these questions. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 18:39, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
Hello WJifar (WMF) thank you so much for the questions. We are hoping to have atleast 2 event or edit-a-thorns as stated in the number of events in the proposal. There is just an error in the proposal please forgive me, it is true that I have stated the availability of the projector and later asked for funds to hire one, I will try and update the proposal to indicate the correct figures. We are hoping to get other people bringing their laptops and the tablets for instance I have my own laptop. If its fine with you I can provide you with the quotation of the items in the budget line because there are no links in the internet if that is fine with you. I will be happy to learn from you and get recommendations from you :)Setsile (talk) 10:39, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
Additional comments
[edit]Hello Setsile, I edited your budget to match what you have stated here in the discussion page. The total was incorrect after the projector was removed. I also added to question #1 that you're doing two editathons from your comment here. But I still have a few more questions:
- You haven't provided user names for the experienced wikimedians under #3. Can you please do that?
- It says that the modem is a backup internet device. Does that mean you have internet available? Also once you've purchased the modem is it going to be something you can reuse? We provide equipment for groups and not individuals so we need clarification on this.
- For the transport can you provide a breakdown of how you're estimating you need $250?
- Similarly can you tell us how you've estimated childcare expenses to be $200? In the past, have you had many women participants coming to your event with children?
Please let us know. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 18:32, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
Hello WJifar (WMF) thank you so much for editing the budget figures, well since an issue of poor internet connectivity has been reported as one of the factors that hinders our success in our meetings or edit a thorns, we should have back up internet. The modem is going t be used in future events and in places where there is no connection at all for instance outreach in rural areas, hope that makes sense. We have other people not able to attend events because they have kids at home.

Follow-up Questions
[edit]Hello Setsile, thank you again for provided answers to my questions. However, I still haven't gotten a response for the following two questions:
- Can you please provide a breakdown of how you're estimating $250 for transport?
- I understand that you need child care but how are you estimating $200. Are you basing it on the number of children? Number of child care professionals? Number of hours they will be present?
Please let me know. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 04:11, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
Hello again Woubzee (WMF), the break down for transport is as follows:
- $ 125 for a combi (hire) to transport people from the station (rank) to the event
- $ 125 back to the station (rank)
The $200 for child care is estimated based on the number of hours they will be present
kind regards.
Approval
[edit]Hello Setsile, thank you for responding to my questions. I have still found the estimate for the transportation and child care to be high and you haven't provided benchmark or estimates. Based on the research I have done and feedback I've received from colleagues I have reduced both prices to what others have said are reasonable. Please let me know as you take on the event and if these reductions become a challenge. Otherwise, I have approved your proposal. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 22:56, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
Thank you so much WJifar (WMF)
