Report reflections

[edit]

Thanks for this great report and for the results you achieved.

  • It is so encouraging to see the number of topics you covered and the growth you have had in attendees.
  • It is also really interesting to see how you have reflected on where your value lies and what services the Movement needs at this time to support those working with volunteers.
  • It is also interesting to note how much you have learned from this cross-affiliate collaboration in operating the program. Staff leading this that are deeply being embedded in their affiliate programmatic work, is a really interesting model to learn from.

Below I am sharing some thoughts:

  • VSN is planning a new focus on peer sharing. However, if skills sharing workshops are held, perhaps there is a way to offer language interpretation for all sessions. I understand the idea to not record, but perhaps some of the presentation (information) pieces can be recorded or you can have a short learning document to share more widely afterward. I am just thinking of other ways of learning beyond being at the session.
  • It would be great to link the videos you have to the Let’s Connect resources page if you would be open to that. That way the Let’s Connect audience can also use these in their learning. If you are ok with that I can ask the Let’s Connect working group to do this as VSN resources.
  • We are really interested to see how VSN develops its new focus on networking and more informal/intimate spaces for peer sharing, perhaps under the hub model. It will be interesting to see how the existing members can make outreach efforts to start to build a more diverse base and make it clear that it is an open space for participation so that your numbers can grow, as well as the type of support you offer. Exciting challenges!
  • If you haven’t already done so it would be interesting at this stage to connect with @Andi Inácio from Wiki Movimento Brasil that is leading the Capacity Exchange Initiative. It is hoped that this will be an important information tool for people in the movement to connect around skills and services. I would be happy to make the connection if this is useful.

Thanks for all your hard work for the Wikimedia Movement and those working directly to support our volunteer growth. JStephenson (WMF) (talk) 10:35, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
