Feedback on Final Report[edit]

Dear Wikimedians of the UAE,

Thank you for preparing the final report on the work done and funded in 2023. We have reviewed your report and would like to share here  some comments, questions and recommendations that might be useful as you continue implementing your work;

  • It was great learning about your iterative approach to addressing and meeting emerging needs within the community. We are glad the unrestricted nature of the GSF grant allowed you to work on the librarian and Wiki for Human Rights project as an example of a pivot. Can you share a little more about how the latest grant has been informed by community feedback and setting more realistic goals? And have you started thinking about longer term planning and strategy?
  • We see substantial effort and investment in social media and press engagement and are keen to learn more about the projected and resulting outcomes. Are there any planned conversions of those engaged that lead to specific cognitive and action-oriented outcomes? How do you track that to help assess if the investment yields the results you hope for?
    • More specifically, you mention that you engaged with diverse communities through targeted banners, mass messages and that your approach emphasised inclusivity and transparency. Could you share some more about to what extent this approach was impactful? What communities  were represented in your activities?
  • Would you say more on this information you shared as part of lessons you are carrying forward; Prioritize Space and Infrastructure: Address the limitations identified, such as insufficient space and weak internet connectivity, for future events to ensure smooth operations and participant satisfaction.
  • Metrics. We noticed a pattern across majority of your metrics’ results are way below the targets and are curious to learn factors that may be influencing this pattern and if you are taking any measure to reduce the discrepancy.
    • It seems like you’re experiencing some challenges in measuring the metrics for Wikidata items
    • You seem to have readjusted your metrics so that they are more realistic the second time around.
    • It also seems like you have achieved a good amount of participants but with a smaller number of editors. How can you boost editor participation in the future?
  • We see the number of organizers are growing and keen to learn more about how you are supporting them in their organizing journey.
  • We noted that you mentioned that the capacity on assessing and using data was low and that you plan to prioritse them ; would you say more and are there ways we can support you?
  • Recommendations;
    • In future reports please improve the outreach dashboard data shared ensuring that you specify for each event the year it was implemented to support the viewer of the dashboard in knowing the timelines associated with the events.
  • Lastly, we would like to see the outputs of the research work done to support us in understanding its contribution to the overall outcomes shared in the report. Please share here as you respond to the other questions.

That’s it for the reflections and comments; we enjoyed reading the report and taking in the insights shared, and we continue to see value in the work you do in the movement towards achieving knowledge equity.

Feel free to respond to these comments here on the report's discussion page.
