General Support Fund proposal approved in the amount of THB 1,459,000
[edit]Congratulations! Your grant is approved in the amount of THB 1,459,000 with a grant term starting 1 January 2023 and ending 31 December 2023.
The changes we see:
- In the last 12 months, we observed that you continue adjusting and adapting on approaches to keep young people/students engaged with Wikimedia Thailand activities. We believe that your youth-led model can be further studied and shared with other affiliates in the region.
- We observed that you are proactively creating more spaces of discussions and collaboration between Wikimedia Thailand and the Thai editing community.
- We noticed you are also engaging with a wider range of community organisers to lead on different campaigns and activities (evident from the calendar of events)
The changes we hope to see:
- Your plans on building pipeline of leaders in the community
- Improving your budget utilisation rates
- Your approach to hiring and managing a full time role
- Making inroads in incorporation
We’ve also included further observations and recommendations on the application from the review process. For more details, refer to the summary table below.
Next steps
- Let’s continue having regular conversations over the course of your grant implementation. Do set up a regular schedule to connect with your ESEAP Programme Officer based on your needs.
- The reporting requirements for the grant can be found here and templates are available here. Timelines for reporting can be found in your grant agreement or on Fluxx. All reports are to be completed and submitted via Fluxx.
Once again, Congratulations!
We thank you for your participation in the grant application process and hope to continue to journey with you as you embark on a new year of project implementation.

General Clarity
(e.g. vision, change, strategy, learnings) |
(BB) It is understandable that the affiliate has a particular sector/ field of priority. I suggest they diversify more such as Wikidata and Wikisource.
(GS) The calendar is clear and easy to understand (KSH) Their vision is clearly explained, just need clarification strategies to achieve those goals. It has been partly answered on their additional response. |
|
Impact potential and strategic alignment(e.g. strategy, activities alignment with knowledge equity, movement strategy, welcoming underrepresented communities, community support) | (KSH) The applicant brings up issues about gender gap inequity but needs more elaboration of how to close this gap apart from campaigns of WikiGap. They had explained more in further response. Partnership with LGBTQ local community may be something to consider.
(EW) The applicant has a clear understanding and believes that the situation of being unable to retain new participants in the past should be improved. However, it is difficult to observe from the proposed proposal what changes the applicant will make to the plan in 2023 as a countermeasure. |
(BB) I have not seen their long term strategic plan. They should consider crafting one since this is already their second year of budget cycle under the revised grant system.
(GS) Could give a simple introduction of Universal Code of Conduct for the new and existing community to create a safer environment. |
Organisational capacity and budget(e.g. budget, learnings, strategies for engagement) | (KSH) With additional one community liaison, they have the capacity to execute their planned program. Food for thought: how are they going to plan for succession within their organisation? | Questions raised during written responses that were partially answered. These can be tabled for further reflection and discussion with ESEAP PO during grant implementation
(JC) Given Wikimedia Thailand’s experience in running campaigns and also reflecting on sustainability and robustness of the team, do you have a repository containing best practices, planning guidelines, learnings and reflections for existing and new movement organisers? Are there documents which can be shared with the wider ESEAP community? (JC) How do you plan to use social media to increase visibility? What do you plan to do differently in 2023? |
Learning and evaluation(e.g. learnings, metrics) | (BB) I have yet to see hard data/ metrics on the success of their projects. For example, year on year comparison.
(KSH) On their response: they will start to use a post-event survey to collect data of their qualitative matrices and learning lesson. Needs more clarity and elaboration |
Question raised during written response that were partially answered. This can be tabled for further reflection and discussion with ESEAP PO during grant implementation
(JC) One of the ways to think about learning questions is to ask yourself if you are able to answer the questions that you pose at the end of the project and how do you plan to do it? For example, what to measure and how to measure? Is there a person or process set up to do this? Can it be included in your activity plan? Here’s an example |
Others | (EW) According to Thai law, can the initial budget be used after the establishment of the association? Does it just need to prove that an association owns a certain degree of real estate? Because, if it can be used, as long as the financial scheduling is appropriate, the Initial budget seems to be integrated into other budget items. For example, if the association is established in January, the budget that is expected to be spent in December can be scheduled as the initial budget of the association, or if Instead of taking this approach, the applicant should explain how the applicant intends to use the initial budget once the minimum requirements for assets under Thai law have been met. | Questions raised during written responses that were partially answered. These can be tabled for further reflection and discussion with ESEAP PO during grant implementation
(JC) Are there skill gaps within the core team and community organisers that you’ll like to address in 2023? For example: Building partnerships, organising campaigns, running social media campaigns. What type of support do you need to address these gaps? (JC) Staffing: As Wikimedia Thailand will be hiring a full time staff, what are some existing best practices that you hope to develop or already have in place to enable a conducive environment to work in? For example, these could range from putting together an employee handbook, type of team culture to recruitment policy etc. |
