As this is the first time applying for the rapid fund grant, would you be able to share more about:

1) Your experience and participation in the Wikimedia movement;

6) Your proposed learning questions could be useful for future groups who are interested to contribute in a similar way. Yet, it is not clear what is the process you will take to answer these questions and how you plan to document and share these learnings - 1. Gain a deeper understanding of the nuances and variations of sign language across different regions in Indonesia. 2. Learn about the cultural contexts in which different sign languages have developed and how they reflect the identities and experiences of the Deaf communities. 3. Discover effective methods for engaging with Deaf communities and teman dengar, respecting their expertise, and ensuring the documentation process is collaborative and ethical.

7) At question 20, you mentioned outreachdashboard. But, we may also need other tools and support for developing it. What other tools are you thinking of to support the tracking and reporting for the project?

Hi, Jacqueline. Thank you for your questions. Here our explanation:

1. I and my team member has first participation in Wikimedia’s Initiative was WikiGap 2023 to celebrate International Women’s Day, which was conducted in collaboration with Sweden’s Embassy in Indonesia. Besides that, we have also undertaken in-person meetings (kopi darat) with our community members to edit Wikipedia articles together. Alongside WikiClub UB ([1]https://www.instagram.com/klubwikiub/), we aimed to conduct workshop projects to cultivate new generations of Wikipedians and actively participate in editing in Wikipedia Indonesia. One of the projects was editing the article on bird species alongside AIESEC’s exchange participants during their Incoming Global Volunteer (IGV) program. I am involved as a trainer in every new editor training project from participants registered at the event, accompanying the participants and ensuring that the participants can carry out the editing process well, and actively involved in annual member meetings for strategic planning for the Wikimedia Indonesia community, which is can accessed in https://id.wikimedia.org/wiki/Rapat_Umum_Anggota/2022.

2. My experience, especially in disability community development, involves active participation with Lingkar Sosial Malang. Information about this community can be accessed through https://lingkarsosial.org/. I am a volunteer in program development and activities, help the Founder, Mr. Ken Kerta, who is the first initiator of this community in Malang City. We hope that through this collaboration, Indonesian sign language can be documented together. Meanwhile, the grant management experience I have had so far comes from the ASEM SMEs Eco-innovation Center (ASEIC), which was used to realize a social business in the environmental field. Then, for Annidafattiya, she is like my vice project leader. She have been involved in various volunteer activities. She played a key role in organizing the first WikiGap event at Universitas Brawijaya, which was a collaboration with the Swedish Embassy to celebrate Women's Day and promote gender equality. At the International Relations Laboratory at Universitas Brawijaya, she has been leading the training division. Currently she serve as an advisor, providing guidance and support. Additionally, she have been active in AIESEC from 2022 to 2024, focusing on creating impactful programs that support Sustainable Development Goals, particularly quality education (SDG 4) and decent work and economic growth (SDG 8). Through her time with AIESEC, she have held various leadership roles, including team member, vice organizing committee president, and organizing committee president. 3. The distinctiveness of Wikimedia communities in Indonesia lies in the fact that each community involved in the Wikibility project comes from a different region. Each region has a unique type of sign language with slight variations, despite being largely similar. These differences create a uniqueness that reflects the cultural background and characteristics of each area.

Collaboration among Wikimedia communities in Indonesia will provide an opportunity to learn about the sign languages of different regions and create an inclusive space where people with disabilities can actively contribute to Wikimedia projects in the future. Thus, active contributions will not only involve the general public but also recognize, accept, and appreciate the roles of underserved groups, such as people with disabilities.

For this, We plan to collaborate with several communities, including Lingkar Sosial Malang, PSLD (Center for Disability Services) Universitas Brawijaya, Wiki Madura, Wiki Jogja, Wiki Medan, and Wiki Jakarta. For PSLD and Lingkar Sosial Malang, we aim to introduce Wiki to them first, as they are a university body, so our approach will be more formal through university authorization letters as a means of collaboration. We will also provide an offline introduction to Wiki since they are unfamiliar with Wikipedia. We will send an online booklet to the community PR representatives for the Wiki communities and hold discussion meetings to plan our future activities.

4. I heard about the Rapid Fund from Ms. Kanya Prasetyo, the initiator of the UB Wiki Club, who has also helped me a lot in learning and developing my capacity with Wikimedia. My motivation for applying for this grant is a strong and sincere desire to involve disability groups who are rarely included in activities because people generally believe they need constant assistance. Their voices are seldom heard, and their stories are rarely documented. Since 2021, I have been working with disability communities alongside Mr. Ken, and I have learned a lot about their inner feelings. Deep down, they want to be treated equally and fairly. They are incredibly happy when someone pays attention to them and gives them the opportunity to participate in activities, even if those activities are ordinary and not very well-known. This grant opportunity will not only result in the documentation of various Indonesian sign languages on Wikipedia and Wikidata, but also give disability groups the chance to become more confident, feel appreciated, and help create a more inclusive environment within Wikimedia Indonesia. It's worth noting that WikiBility is the first project in Indonesia that involves disability groups.

5. Yes. In fact We discussed the two fast funding proposals in our meeting, then in its implementation, members in the UB WikiKlub community were grouped based on our expertise to support each project. We plan to support each other's projects with different project team leaders, and then continue to carry out learning and implementation through various collaborative efforts. We plan to hold regular joint meetings to share progress and insights, cross-promote each project's activities and results, and share online tools or communication channels to exchange knowledge, resources and best practices. For each project we work on, we will hold training for each member if backup is needed on the day so that each member knows their respective goals and duties.

6. Each committee member will study the background and culture of the deaf individuals from the targeted regions that we aim to document. We will conduct research on the various vocabulary variants that we will document. We will approach the deaf community from the Wikimedia community and universities directly to better understand their needs and the educational support we can provide. The committee will arrange the documentation procedures for each community, ensuring inclusivity by providing facilities for deaf individuals, and making them comfortable during the documentation process. After preparations are completed, documentation will take place in Malang, with various communities from different regions taking turns to conduct documentation alongside the committee. The committee will input all documented data into a centralized Google Sheet, allowing all parties involved (committee, deaf individuals, and the community) to access and view the data transparently. Once all data is collected, we will process the output through editing, including educational posters, sign language movement editing with voice-over explanations, and social media infographic feeds. After editing is completed, we will upload the output to Wikimedia Commons and our community's social media pages, as well as those of our partner communities. In addition to media output, we also plan to conduct small workshops within the university to raise awareness about sign language, in collaboration with our partner, the Center for Disability Services (PSLD) at the university. We aim to involve both disabled and non-disabled students in these workshops to promote understanding of the diversity of sign language vocabulary in Indonesia and to present the documented vocabulary collection outputs.

7. So far, we only need outreach to measure the amount of content we will be able to document. In the meantime, we only need a centralized Google Sheets to track every understanding of sign language from several regions which we will later record. Because we realize we may need help, my hope is when we write "possible need other tools" because it is possible to anticipate in the future, and if we need help, we really hope we can ask someone to learn about it. However, we have met several people from the Wikimedia Indonesia community, so in this regard we will learn a lot from people who are experts in the success track of previous projects, such as Lim from Wiki Medan. Note on grant funding amount

In your award letter/email, you may observe that the USD equivalent may be different from that floating exchange rate on Oanda. This is because (at the moment) we apply a pre-determined exchange rate for each grant as determined by the WMF Finance team. That said, I've published on meta the approved amount in your local currency and we can use that as a common reference point.

We know even the best thought through plans may change.

In the event that there are changes to your implementation schedule, you can reach out to request for a grant extension (i.e. extend end date). Similarly, if there is a surplus budget or changes to your planned budget, you can reach out to me about reallocation (via email and on this talkpage).
