In addition to adding more content to Wikimedia projects, I believe this remarkable initiative serves as a powerful effort to preserve the history and culture of West Sumatra. This project truly deserves approval, and I eagerly look forward to seeing its impact.

Follow-up questions on your application

[edit]

Hello @Zhilal Darma

Thank you for your application. Your application is being reviewed by the ESEAP Regional Funds Committee and Programme Officer, with inputs from Wikimedia Indonesia. Here are some questions that we require more information.

Thank you for taking a moment to respond.

Regards, Jacqueline

1) Related to learning and metrics: On the number of content contributions, it was stated there that there will be 10 contributions for Wikipedia. Will this be a newly created article or an improvement of an existing one? If this will be new articles, how will you identify the topic that has the most impact for the community? And could you provide 1-2 examples of new wikipedia articles that you/your team have created on a similar topic from your past projects?

2) As an experienced movement coordinator and editor in accessing resourcing for projects, how can the project increase the engagement of local volunteers or communities, beyond a one time edit-a-thon session?

3) Could you share details/links (to documentation) of the community consultations that you have done prior to the submission of this application?

4) Could you provide more clarity on the value and impact potential of your project? One of the feedback that we received was that "It is not clear why they want to enrich information about cultural heritage or what impact it will have."

Hello @JChen (WMF)
Thank you for question, I will answer about it:
  1. The theme chosen for the creation or development of articles aligns with the project’s focus, namely cultural heritage and objects suspected of being cultural heritage (Culture, Heritage, or GLAM). We will compile a list of articles based on documented cultural heritage sites and their locations. This list can serve as a reference for creating new articles on Indonesian Wikipedia or Minangkabau Wikipedia. If a related article already exists, the next step would be to further develop and expand it. Here are some articles that were created in previous activities: example [1], [2, [3], [4]
  2. At the beginning of the project, we will hold discussions with local communities and volunteers regarding the planning of activities and receive suggestions regarding the smooth running of the project. We also prioritize the involvement of volunteers or local communities who live in the location of the activity to participate in carrying out field activities. The involvement of volunteers and local communities is very helpful in the smooth running of the project. Outside the edit-a-thon session, there will be a discussion regarding the sustainability and utilization of the project output.
  3. Discussions and consultations with the Padang Wikimedia Community have been carried out both privately and at the monthly community meeting held on February 8, 2025 at the community monthly meeting link . We also informed the progress of the submission at the community monthly meeting in March 2025 link. Here is the detailed link https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VXF3X0-VdTHJ3hneqRnsb-wtRTzGPDSiBKTiKyV8NEI/edit?usp=sharing
  4. Currently, the condition of cultural heritage and objects suspected of being cultural heritage at the district level has decreased in quality and quantity which has ended in extinction. Cultural heritage at the district level which is very far from the city center makes it less attention from the relevant agencies for maintenance and preservation. It takes a lot of funds and a long time to realize the preservation of cultural heritage at the district level. WikiRantau activities in the form of documentation are an effort to preserve the memory of cultural heritage so that it can still be seen and studied by the next generation. On the other hand, this effort is a tangible form of support for the preservation of cultural heritage, which can be used as research material, and maintenance of cultural heritage so that it is possible to be even better.
Thank you.

Additional suggestion from Wikimedia Indonesia

[edit]

Hello @Zhilal Darma

We have a suggestion to also match the 50 cultural heritage sites you are visiting with the net content contribution of creating and improving 50 articles in Wikipedia (Indonesian Wikipedia or Minangkabau).

We will be returning the application to you on Fluxx. Please feel free to make the necessary adjustments to the metrics table and re-submit the application so that we can move the application through the review process.

Thank you.
