General Support Fund proposal approved in the amount of PHP 1,777,820 for 2023 to 2024
[edit]Congratulations! Your grant is approved in the amount of PHP 1,777,820 with a grant term starting 1 July 2023 and ending 30 June 2024. Of the approved amount, 10% will need to be set aside for fiscal sponsorship fee to KIWIX.
Opportunities that we see:
- We value your enthusiasm and understand the importance of growing more local content that is valued by readers, content contributors and movement organisers in the Philippines. We are also cognisant of the role and history that Phil Wiki has played within the Philippines community. Through this grant, we look to see more diverse voices and participation from the Phil Wiki community within the global movement and are open to also supporting internal community reconciliation/ team building efforts.
Recommendations:
- Based on the grant funding amount, we recommend that you work with the Programme Officer to prioritise your activity plan for the year before the start of the grant on 1 July 2023. From the reader’s/reviewer’s perspective, we also recommend revising your annual plan, activity timeline, budget and metrics accordingly to ensure more consistency, cohesion and clarity. For new initiatives, we recommend providing more clarity around context, objectives and approach.
- As a first time recipient of the General Support Fund and to support you in managing the grant, we have been in touch with Kiwix to act as your fiscal sponsor for the grant. They are happy to collaborate with you on this. We will connect you with Kiwix in due course.
Snippets from WMF Staff (thematic focused)
- (MH) Contrasting the Education section in the annual plan with the timetable and budget, it takes a bit of time to find consistency in the proposal. For example, the budget indicates 3 specific projects: A) WikiProject Education Campaign, B) Wiki Education Program, and C) WikiClub Education Program, so I’m assuming that A refers to WikiProyekto Edukasyon in the plan’s third target, B connects to the second target, and C to the first target. I would suggest reviewing for alignment in the terminology so that internal and external stakeholders can more easily grasp this plan. Additionally, while it is stated that there are “SMART goals” in the annual plan, the content in the table doesn’t actually articulate them as such and the “submitted inputs” section doesn’t seem aligned with the particular “targets”. I would revise the table to include the following headings: goal (example: By June 2024, a total of 30 teachers from 3 different schools and universities will have actively participated in activities designed to promote the use of Wikipedia in academic settings), program (example: WikiClub Education Program), activities (example: establish a WikiClub, recruit teachers), evaluation question (example: What particular activity do teachers want to be part of in order to understand the value and usefulness of Wikipedia?). I think once this information is better organized as such it’ll be easier to evaluate and communicate the impact of their programs.
- (AS) I would be interested in how they plan to measure success and turn their year-long activities into a strategy for retention or activation of existing community members
