Final Report Review Reflections & Recommendations[edit]

Dear Tochi and the team at Igbo Wikimedians User Group,

Thank you for preparing the final report on the work done and funded in 2023. We have reviewed your report and here are some comments, questions and recommendations;

  • Supporting Newcomers
    • Thank you for sharing your approach in how you support newcomers through multi-lingual training and provision of continuous learning materials, and providing data - all towards meeting them, where they are. We are keen to learn on how you are addressing the sometimes known disruptive nature of contributions made by newbies and how you ensure they hold the knowledge related to copyright and licensing, Wikimedia projects policies etc. to support contribution beyond your intervention?
  • Challenges Shared;
    • You mentioned that you were faced with technical capabilities and time availability challenges -would you say more on the technical challenges and what is the plan of addressing these challenges in the current grant.
  • Social media engagement;
    • How are you measuring the effectiveness of social media? What were the expected outcomes and for the future - current grant?  What conversion milestones are you hoping to achieve?
    • In the metrics section, please update the metrics related to the results.
  • Recommendations;

Thank you so much and we look forward to learning more about your accomplishments in the upcoming learning conversation. VThamaini (WMF) (talk) 07:56, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello Veronica, thank you for the feedback and questions. To be able to curtail the disruptive nature of newbies, we conduct:
onboarding sessions: workshops made specifically for newbies, these workshops cover: ABC of Wikipedia editing: formatting, wikitext, referencing, etc. Copyright and licensing: we explain different Creative Commons licenses and how to identify and use appropriately licensed content.
Wikimedia project policies: we discuss core policies like Neutral Point of View (NPOV), Verifiability, and Notability.
Mentorship Program: Newbies are paired with experienced editors for one-on-one guidance. Mentors can review edits, answer questions, and provide feedback.
Also, to address the disruption, we provide clear editing guidelines that outline the expectations for contribution.
challenges shared: in regards to the varying technical abilities, we organized different learning webinars where we taught how to use various tools and editing on various platforms. while in terms of time availability, we had meeting recordings and also fixed meetings in the evenings and on weekends for more people to be able to attend.
Social media engagement: we used social media analytic tools to track follows, comments, likes etc. In this current grant, we hope to increase our followership by 10%, attract new members and new editors.
Thank you, we'll check and update it.
Thank you for the recommendation. We'll definitely improve it in the future. Tochiprecious (talk) 05:44, 2 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
