Camera

We'd be happy to consider funding a camera, if you have a concrete plan for using it to benefit our mission. If you do, describe the plan in the grant and add it to the budget. Ijon 19:25, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

As we were doing our Wikipedia for schools projects, we came across very notable features that require to be uploaded on Wikicommons as a way of maximizing the outcome of our projects. We tried our best to use our mobile phone cameras but they are not as good. Some feature that we visited which I think should be having an up to date photo on commons were or from views from various elevations:

• Crying stone at Kakamega - The stone has changed the way it looks.
• The chinga dam in Othaya Nyeri

Previous reports?

I was looking for a report on Grants:WM KE/Wikipedia for Schools Project, but there doesn't seem to be one despite the project being well past its scheduled end date. Was it funded as the page says, or were there some difficulties? I'm asking because IMO it's generally good practice to ensure that past reports are filed before taking on new grants.--Eloquence 07:42, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Questions about cost allocation

For me seems like the amount requested could even be lower if you ask for a part of the merchandise of the Wikimedia Foundation? So, what is the experience you previously had with the Foundation to procure T-shirts and other promotion material, and is it possible to reduce the sum of $1,302 with something like this? Since you mention that the other costs are for consulting services and you don't know what is the actual cost for it, I'd suggest to use the similar use of the service as a criterion to get the estimate. From what I have learnt by inquiring from a few proffesionals and by relating to the amount that we were charged by the lawyer (who is a friendly)- BTW, the lawyer is the one who shall facilitate our registration. Domain Renewal

Since Wikimedia.or.ke is not managed by the foundation as it was discussed at our mailing list and decided that we include the sum required to have the website hosted locally. Most important items?

Hi Stephenwanjau. Your requests have a very different importance, I think. I don’t know your local life and institutions, so I cannot compare them. Which items are most important for you? I am not very certain that I got your question right!!

However, the items in the table are arranged in no particular order of preference. But for the first $3000 we would use that for:

• Registration and legal fees - $833
• Bank Account Opening - $31
• Hosting our Domain - $450
• Pocket Wi-Fi router - $167
• Internet on our meet-ups - $ 625 (A portion of this shall be used to have Wi-Fi available *as We will hold a meet up after we get registered to discuss on the way forward)
• T-shirts, banners, and Stationery - $1302 (A part of these funds shall go into making/printing some merchandise, preferably WMKE customized after we get registered)

No, this is exactly what I told. I don’t intimate that you should get only $3000; I only wanted to know which items are most important for you. For instance, for me with European experience is $1302 for t-shirts, banners, and stationery extremely high outcome. But after you discussion with Kiril I understand your needs. I still don't, actually. $1302 seems like the result of some calculation (e.g. per-unit price multiplied by estimated unit count, plus perhaps one-time fees such as cost for a contractor designer?) -- where can we see that calculation? Ijon 01:28, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Travel/Logistics item

I recommend increasing the travel/logistics budget item to $1000, to allow more activity without requiring separate grants. Ijon 19:50, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

We were a bit worried to put a huge amount as it would seem extravagant, but since Asaf was here and had the first hand experience of transport around we discussed and agreed it is ok to put it at $ 1,000 for the whole year. --Stephenwanjau 16:51, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

Currency

Since the Kenyan shilling fluctuates so much, perhaps it makes more sense to budget this request in Kenyan Shillings -- that way, you know what things cost, and we just disburse Kenyan shillings (if we can), or the equivalent US dollar amount, at time of disbursement.
