Thanks for making a grant application. Just an inquiry though -- is this a grant application for an individual? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Abbasjnr (talk) 12:36, September 26, 2011‎

Maybe. It's a grant application for two people, and we are not officially appointed by an organization. Also, Wikimedia Brasil is not a legal chapter yet, but we intend to join these efforts into a language division in Wikimedia Brasil, that we call Wikimedia Brasil Línguas. This division aims to improve another languages spoken in Brazil, and for now it includes Esperanto and Nheengatu. These projects i'm proposing are related with that group, and if approved, will certainly involve Brazilians Esperanto organizations. I'm in close touch with our national confederation and can give you more details, if necessary. CasteloBrancomsg 20:42, 26 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Non-financial requirements

[edit]

Also, under "non-financial requirements" you might want to include Wikimedia merchandise from the Foundation -- to give away to attendants of the conference. Abbasjnr 19:36, 26 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, you're right. Specially because the conference is not organized by a chapter or by the WMF, there will be probably little merchandise material there. I will update, thanks. CasteloBrancomsg 20:32, 26 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Measures of success

[edit]

Thanks for submitting this application. The figures in the measures of success are really promising, but I'd like to know how many people from Brazil are included in these figures? On the other hand, since it is an anniversary of a Wikimedia project, are there other Wikimedians attending the event? Best regards.--Kiril Simeonovski 15:16, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

1) I didn't include the Brazilians on the measures of success, because we will probably be the only Brazilians in the event. Also, the Brazilian Esperanto community is very, very big, but not active in WMF projects, unfortunately. For minimize that, i'm thinking on other solutions, like a lecture/workshop during the next Esperanto national conference, to be held in January 2012 here in Brasília. I'm already negotiating this participation with the organizers. So, a quick response will be: only two. The others are from Europe, mostly. I can only include the Brazilians later, and this is gonna be a way bigger number. The last national congress joined around 500 Brazilian Esperantists, and most of them are not wikipedians.
2) Surely there were many others wikimedians attending. The conference was proposed in Esperanto Wikipedia in February 2010. With the organizers confirmation, we've created a page for the event. It was also announced on the village pump in July and in September (again). We expect to join some of the more active Esperanto wikimedians. Chuck Smith and Miroslav Malovec, the starters of Eo-Wikipedia, already confirmed. Marek Blahuš (CZE) is helping organize the event and will certainly join. ArnoLagrange (FRA) will probably attend, too. Possibly, Ziko van Dijk (NED) and Fiskot (POL), too. Most eo-Wikipedians live in Europe and won't need a scholarship to attend. I'm asking it because for me it's way more difficult to be there without that. CasteloBrancomsg 21:45, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Casteliane's contribution

[edit]

Could you clarify User:Casteliane's contribution? It seems she has not been significantly contributing to any of the Wikimedia projects; what is the value in funding her travel to this conference? Ijon 20:28, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

She's a photographer and is willing to help starting a ladies' group specially for Wikimedia Commons and Vikinovaĵoj (eo.wikinews). I thought it would be a good ideia to involve other people in order to decentralize those relations with the eo-associations here in Brazil and specially focused on reducing our gender gap. Therefore, i send her an invitation for contribute to the WMF projects and present, at this conference, some of her offline experiences with ladies groups (a photoclub for women and other gender groups on writing/reporting, with their results).
However, we think now there's no time enough for the arrangements for the travel and the conference, and it would be better to cancel this request, but i don't know how to do that. There will be a national conference in Brazil in January (with almost the same escope but different attendance), which will probably bring more results. Can i keep the page and description and update the details or should i create another request and ask for closing this one? CasteloBrancomsg 04:14, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
